This image sums up the relationship I've had with just about every printer I've ever owned.



My photo printer (Kodak ESP C310) absolutely refuses to print anything in black and white. Whenever I try to print a page with just black text, it ends up choppy (the words are faded). If I print a photo, it comes out perfectly. Am I just not supposed to use a photo printer to print black text, or is there something I can do to fix it?

Try this snobo -

Open the printer and remove all cartridges > Sharply unplug the printer from the wall outlet while it is still on, and disconnect it from the pc if connected there

Use a q-tip dampened with warm water to clean the copper contacts on the cartridges and in the printer > Keep cleaning until no ink comes off on the q-tip

Dry for ten minutes, then reinsert cartridges firmly > While the printer is still off, press and hold the power button for 1 minute

Finally, while holding down the stop/cancel button, plug the printer back in, and power on the printer if it doesn't do so automatically, then try the test page again.

I owned Canon printers which have a cleaning mode in the printer settings in the printer control panel.

I think it works by squirting out a small amount of ink to purge the dry ink which fixes some problems with printers.

I read at http://www.buycheapinkcartridges.com/ho ... ng-out.htm it is recommended to use your printer once a week to print some text to keep the ink fresh.

Thanks for the suggestions, but cleaning the cartridges didn't work. I also tried the cleaning thing built into the printer, but that didn't seem to work well either. It prints colour perfectly, but not black. o_o

1. Open up the printer.
2. Clean it out.
3. Make sure there's black ink.
4. Take the cartridges and shake them. This makes the ink flow more.
5. Put the cartridges back in.
6. Make sure all parts are clean and no dust present.
7. Put printer back together.
8. Eat a hamburger
9. Take a sledge hammer........................................ and hit the ground.
10. Drink refreshment.

Switch off and disconnect the printer from power supply. Also disconnect any other units (PC etc) to it. Leave the printer disconnected for 30 minutes. It should do a soft reset itself, then restart it.

control panel-> printers
right click and go to properties and select B/W or color there.

Have you tried a different black cartridge? Is so did the problem persists? If so the printer head is probably going bad.

I bought an HP printer on black friday for $25 and its been great, mostly printing out papers for school. My old printer was absolutely awful though lol.

If it did it when you first got it, I would have gave it back. It sounds like you got a faulty printer right from the get go.

Swap the colours around and see if say, you swapped blue and black, see if the blue comes out well :lol:

If it did it when you first got it, I would have gave it back. It sounds like you got a faulty printer right from the get go.

I was too poor to buy a new printer cartridge to test right away. :lol: Blasted retailers with their fourteen day return policies.

Have you tried using the printer on another Windows computer or laptop to make sure it is not a problem with Windows or the printer driver software?

I use the HP Deskject series printer, and it's freakin awesome.! Get it, don't think twice. No, you won't do the same with that. 😀

Most of my printers have been pretty terrible as well, I had one printer that refused to print because it said there was no ink left, WHEN THERE WAS!

I h ave been using sonic color printer & xerox machine in my office and working well. The printer machine bought from OPC http://www.opcindiatechnologies.com and provide services also.

My cannon printer won't even work anymore. It stopped working a day or two after I BOUGHT IT. They're TERRIBLE printers. I'd switch to an HP printer. XD

I have a Brother (same company that makes the sewing machines) printer and it works great, will definitely last a while. Used to use an HP and had all sorts of issues with it.

I still hate printers. I have a Brother printer right now, and it's like a medieval torture device.

Just before I moved out from my parents, they got a super-expensive awesome printer that was really fast and just perfect. Now that I've moved out I had to get one for my own, and on my student economy it couldn't really be that expensive. After having gotten a months taste of heaven when using my parents' new one, I really dreaded what kind of printer I'd end up with. I bought a Canon MG3650 for $20 (cheapest one I found), and it is AMAZING! It prints fast enough, good enough - but the great thing is that it actually PRINTS when I try printing wirelessly.
