Do they have like previews? You guys should make a petition so that it can be download-able.

Not yet.

Who are you referring to when you say "You guys."
And ProBoards users aren't signing a petition. I think we are happy how it is.

You can download it. If you ask nicely..... 😛

My friend just had her Proboards RPG forum up and deleted without recourse for having an inappropriate plot. I'm not too hot on them right now.

A glance up and down their support forum will reveal she is not their only recent victim by a long shot.

Yeah, that happens all the time.
But, your friend's forum wasn't following one of the more important terms in the TOS, you can't be surprised that her forum was deleted without recourse.

PB v5 will be great for us coders though 🙂

How?

Coding skills will probably end up becoming useless on ProBoards V5.

Codes still have to be made to change things that you cannot do with just moving portions of the source code around to your liking. 😛

For example, I can make a forum look similar to an another software, but in order to make people believe it, codes have to be made to modify things.

I was actually worried about posting here since any opinion against ProBoards seems to be shot down so I'll tread really carefully - all I'm going to say is when I used it (v4) I believe back in '05/'06 and when I moved onto phpBB, IPB, MyBB, SMF, vB etc. afterwards, PB just seemed like it desires to be dormant in the stone age.

I think it's absolutely perfect for new administrators or for those who wish to have a look around a forum etc. but apart from that I don't see its position in today's competitive market. I would prefer this - http://www.enochutah.net/AdmImg/Probs/ACP-1.jpg - to PB now. I do await what features they bring to the table and if they completely redo certain aspects of the software, but for five years it has remained the same, all they have changed (from a distant POV) is the style of their support forum (which you can only see once logged in).

Side note: I like it how they encourage multiple account creation for the same forum as a feature on their iPhone app. Most (if not all) forums that I've come across and have used have never allowed such account usage. Not sure why they'd use that as a selling point.

I agree with you, but they have made some changes since then. 😉
For example, they added a feature so you can use your social network account to log in, register, or share topics. Like you said, they have the iPhone app now. They have a Tynt feature now, which I personally don't like. You can now link your domain to the forum for $, you have an option for another type of advertisement, there is a "New Topics" feature, you can change your ProBoards sub-domain for $, you can move posts so you can split and merge topics, etc. The TOS has been updated since then. They have new smilies, and the default ProBoards theme on each forum is now different as well.

Correct, I wasn't there or a member on her forum so aside from the outside look I wouldn't have known. She claims to me though that it was mere plot elements in her RPG that got it removed.

I personally much prefer the security of being able to back up my own board and also that it won't be deleted on the spur of the moment due to some arbitrary interpretation of their TOS. Which by the way allows them to use any of your material without paying you any royalties if you produce it on one of their boards.

Actually, that section of the TOS you are referring to Acorn, is the ability to display the content of the forum to people via their browsers. So yeah. That is what it means. Been watching their support board since the TOS was updated, and I could have sworn 40 or more people asking about that very portion of the TOS, and they explained it as only giving them the ability to show what you post on forums, in the browsers people use when viewing the post.

As dentist explained, you have misinterpreted that part of the ProBoards TOS.

Glad I did. I and many others did. Thanks for the corrective info. 🙂 Nevertheless, I have moved on from them. I wish anyone who does try them good luck.

I have been with them for a bit more than a couple years, I am about ready to leave them as well. Not because they're a bad forum host, but because of the reputation that they have.

They definitely seem to "hover" over people's forums a lot more now to make sure they're adhering to the TOS. This is bad and good. They seem to be bigger on second chances in some cases now which is a good step in the right direction, but I've seen some reports in their support board complaining of rather draconian warnings being given. I guess I can't really be a good judge of it since I'm definitely looking in from the outside now and I don't look all that often.

I doubt they even check forums by themselves. They go by reports. Which nowadays, there are trolls that go around and report forums for the stupidest things.

Some people report forums, simply for the reason that the forum is a competitor of theirs, and they want to force it out of business, and try to get their members.

ProBoards is getting better? Impossible.

Good thing to see. I can't stand the look of them.

im really anxious for the release, i have like 200 codes its gonna be scary if my custom stuff doesnt work anymore and i cant use the custom features i have now and the site all bare and different. but in the long run itll be a way nicer situation. someone mentioned themes earler, i did read on PBS support they were going to have premade themes available that members can choose from. stuff like who is viewing what forum now, maybe thread but i watched a video that had forums but youd think threads too then. i think i read on socal they are going to have a built in money system and the mini profile is gonna to have more stuff that comes with v5 but i couldnt find the thread just now

Your forum is highly modified on v4.5, I doubt it will be once v5 does come out.

i have used pb for many many years off and on i think since v3 came out.Although they are attempting to upgrade there services to others to me they are still far behind many other free forum services. With v5 coming out and not needing to much coding or theme designers i think that will actually hurt them.Since i have been there most of the biggest boards are based off of making themes and codes for them.I guess we will have to wait and see what happens but in all from viewing over the years i think proboards is just dieing a slow death unless they completely recode and catch up to the other services out there
