ProBoards V5

I hate hosted forums 😛 Proboards themes also stink.

I hate trolls. 😛
Don't troll threads.
That post has nothing to do with ProBoards V5.
Also, ProBoards themes are capable of being better looking than themes on MyBB, phpBB, etc, if the theme creator(s) knows what they are doing.

as a PB theme creator i totally agree :great:

Quite frankly, I gave up PB because of v5. They've talked about it for about 3 years now...... it isn't coming out this year. Promise.

I assure you, it is coming out this year. I personally think v5 will make it similar to Forumotion and even take the edge that a forum owner would normally have if they know how to code or design.

The admins say it will never be download able. You might be able to get an older version but that's a big might

If I understand that post, I already knew that. 😛
I doubt we will get to download the older versions though.
That would be cool if we could. 😉

They definitely seem to "hover" over people's forums a lot more now to make sure they're adhering to the TOS. This is bad and good. They seem to be bigger on second chances in some cases now which is a good step in the right direction, but I've seen some reports in their support board complaining of rather draconian warnings being given. I guess I can't really be a good judge of it since I'm definitely looking in from the outside now and I don't look all that often.

I moved less than 6 months ago (October 22nd of last year). One of the reason is the fact that they delete people's forum without warnings. But that was not the main reason, I was happy with Proboards and did not know any different. I don't know if you guys remember the server blowout (I believe it was around the 30th June or July of last year). Anyway, I was one of the victims and I patiently waited for them to restore my forum and it came back, 30 days earlier. They said that's the latest backup they had for my board; I won't lie, I was pissed. So I lost 1 month of users & postings. Support suggestion was that I back-up my own forum (I was so confuse by that suggestion since I did not have server access). Anyway, I went searching on the net of how to back-up my Proboards and learned their might be a way to move it. I sat on that information for 3 months since I'm not very technical and I was scared. But then I weighed the cons & pros (I was paying for ad-free) and I would actually save money if I moved plus I can do real back-ups of my board and download them to my computer (I do a back-up every other day now). So I would be more in control so I took the plunge and they deleted my Proboards. Do I regret leaving: NO, would I ever come back: NO, If I knew the things I know now, would I have chosen Proboards: NO (that's true for any free forum since I would not have server access)
Anyway, when I was with Proboards, I did not think they were so bad. I like the software version they have now and the fact that they are improving on it will make it even better. Their support is way better than most support for any forum software including paid software. The only reason not to choose them is the lack of control. I still have my test forum since they did not delete that, so I have to check it out when it's released just out of curiosity!

Those people are best friends of the owner, thus why they have a older buggier version of the multiforum software.

You know, I recall once back in like 04 or 05. The first forum I ever had that I started with on PB. They wound up deleting that board for no reason at all. As I don't recall a reason given. I wound up making a new board for what I was doing then. And then I think a day or so later they restored my old one. It makes me happy that they can't really delete any board I have now since we moved our comics discussion site from PB to phpBB that I'm currently running.

Maybe this new version will improve things, who knows.

It seems like a nice board service till you really get into it and want more control. So, I'd say it's good for people who are into "forums lite" not really serious about putting a lot of time and energy into their message board. And as long as they're okay with not having much control over it, and of course the whole deletion thing. That can be a bummer.

They deleted our forum too after we moved. They have an issue with you taking your stuff elsewhere which I think is very worrisome.

Please let's not try to send this thread into a trolling situation guys, I'll be watching it closely, stay on topic please 😉
