See, that's where mine and your difference comes in. I'm skimming past signatures, but when i read post, I'm a rep checking addict, where I like to see members' reputation points, and even read their mini-profiles more then their signatures.

Those who are fluent with forums, usually bypass signatures, because the already know what's in each member's sig, and ad fro a forum.

But, The profile Ads, it's new, different ... and not "everyone" will one at the same time.

This just goes to show that everyone is different, so this service still improves your exposure, as those who skip signatures will most likely see it 🙂

Yep everyone is different. Those who skip signatures and pay attention to reputation points and the like are more likely to see them.

But I would still like to hear some opinions on my idea above about moving the advertisement to above the users name. Whether you're looking for who wrote the post or who's reputation you are boosting... you would still be looking in the same place. And I think that place would be ideal for the placement rather than under all of the data next to the signature.

yeah.. I didnt even notice they were in some people's posts until I read this topic pointing them out. lol.
Anyways, all the suspense built up for this service, I thought something wonderful was coming. But nice effort FP. 😀
Also, a user should have control of that space in their UCP, Ive been trying to work that out on my own forum, so far its just an area for text and links. That has been up for months now and the members seem to like it. ~wink~

See tbqh i think the service will go on well but at a time it will become free.
I just haven't got every hopes up for it.

We are looking into some changes for the service based on users feedback. Hopefully some changes can be made.

There was two service ideas, Plan A didn't go to plan though.

I'm not 100% convinced that this will cater for most users. I don't think this will be as effective as signature advertising and other alternatives. Time will only tell.

It doesn't show on FP1, the darker skin. I was wondering what was so special about it because I couldn't see it at first until I saw that picture.

This new service is a very smart idea.

It is such a simple implementation yet so useful 🙂.
 
Hey all.

Following it's first week as a BETA, a few headaches and some recent discussions off-board we've decided to discontinue the Profile Ads service.

The main reasons are simple. As some members mentioned it was simply impractical the way we had it set up, right next to the signature with no emphasis on it at all. Some said it was hard to notice, some said it was badly positioned - I can accept that. We've tried playing around with some different options such as where it's positioned on the viewtopic page, adding a border / background colour and even adding it to the user's actual User CP profile.

However upon more reflection we realised it was going to take too much time and effort updating the service each week and trying to make it noticeable for what it was actually worth.

This evening I've been talking with the Staff regarding the future of the service, and the general feeling was that whilst it's a good idea and gives the user some extra level of exposure...it's not something we should charge users for.

Therefore, at some point over the coming weeks we plan to roll out a small addition to the User CP that will allow you to add your site name, description and a small affiliate below your post profile (Avatar / post count etc...). It will be more or less the same as the current profile ads set up, however it will be a free feature in which you can control yourself from the User CP instead of a paid service that only shows up for a week at a time.

Initial programming work on this most likely won't start for a while as we're currently developing some other exciting updates that will be coming in the near future. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

Aww! It's to bad that it's discontinued after a week. Hopefully you'll have better/new services in the near future! Until then, I can't wait for you to add the profile ads in our UCP for we can edit them and stuff! -🙂-
 
Yeah having them in the UCP for the member to update should make things both more noticeable and easier.
