What's the best software to have use for a promotion forum? I use phpBB3 as you can revoke the user from a forum, revoke their PMs etc.

Do either of you have any experience with VB? Just wondering, because a lot of people who don't use VB think it's good because it's paid, though it is very complex I hear. (If you have used it from an admin perspective, or used their demo, then I apologize)

i was admin on one of akcin's site with him a while ago...
Yah, it was definately VB. haha
It is complex, and expensive...
but, IMO worth it

It's between phpBB and VB if you ask me. They offer a lot of features that could prove useful for a promotion forum.

I've tried VB and hated it. 🙂

There is no 'best' promotion forum software, if it's good it's good, I personally prefer phpBB as it is much easier to navigate then other software I find.

I think vB is the worst though, as you have to pay for it, when you can get phpBB free, and customisation is endless.

I think Mybb is one of the best promotion forum softwares because of the laid back look, it doesnt look so industrial.

Like stated before, It's what you like and can work with. Any software can have an amazing design + great mods to make it and seem different.

The correct answer is whatever forum software you are most experienced with 😉.

Inivision Power Board is being said to be gaining an edge over vBulletin with it's 3.0 series. I have to agree. All depends on personal preference at the end of the day.

I think it has to be anything with a good hook system - such as vB and MyBB and not phpBB3.

Yes, you can customise phpBB3 limitlessly but when it comes to updating it can be a pain.

With the hook system, where all plugin code is kept externally of the core files, updating is usually a breeze. If something does go wrong, just click the deactive link in the ACP, you don't have to undo edits.

It's also far far easier to add features to the forum without worrying about breaking everything.

The sooner phpBB3 gets a similar system the better, their current hook system is pretty poor. They've been against it for a while but seeing as they're now adding a quick reply which they've been against they may change their mind

Agreed. IPB 3 is also starting to jump on this bandwagon.
