I'm just wondering what other methods of promotion I could use for my site(s) other than promotion forums. I find the forums I promote on are all in the same 'circle' so I don't tend to reach out to many new members.

How would you suggest I attract other people?

Mouth-to-mouth promotion, basically.
You know, local advertising and promotion!
Ah I see! I tell my friends, but it's difficult doing that and reaching out to people I don't know on the internet.

Answer someone else's question, specifically in areas where your niche is concerned. Then, perhaps, recommend your site after you receive a sort of "Thank you very much. That was most helpful!" kind of response. 😉 By helping others you could end up helping yourself. 😉

That's often recognized as spam on boards like this 🙁

Perhaps a signature link then, assuming this is allowed? 😉

I have signature links but they aren't too effective. Remember I'm looking for other methods than promotion forums 🙂

You can use signatures on other forums. DigitalPoint isn't a promotion forum. 😉 but they are a very popular one and they do allow signature links. There are plenty of other forums that also allow signature links that aren't promotion forums. 😉

Email marketing
article directories
social media
blog commenting

these would also help a lot in promotion.

Perhaps a profile pic with your forum domain on it?
thats actually not such a bad idea lol
easy ... though i would of never thought of that myself

Word of mouth is good. Add your site on facebook. Tweet about it. Add signature links to other forums. Place an add in a paper. Advertise your site on your car. Print up tshirts.

Create a Facebook page about your site. Then make relevant posts. To advertise the page, you would make a few comments on other related pages (signed in as admin so they click on your name and visit your page). Though it's an around about way to get traffic, as the person would need to visit your Facebook page first before clicking on links to posts or pages that lead to your site.

There are many methods to promote your sites including...

Promotion forums
Directories and topsites
Submitting articles
Making pages (HubPages, Squidoo, etc.)
Making Videos
Guest blogging
Post Loop
Post exchanges, link exchanges
Writing fresh and unique content that is rare
Creating a blog and cross promoting
Buying advertisements
Your word of mouth
Asking members to invite others
Running forum contests (posting contest, referral contest, etc.)
And much more!

Try them all for a period of time, like a month or more and see which ones give you results.

What about joining some various Google+ circles with people that have similar interests as your forum?

For instance, there is a huge fan following on Google+ for shows like The Walking Dead; various Xbox games; tech gadgets. If you ask around, someone will recommend an entire group of 'friends' that you can add with one click. Everyone in that group added will be into the things you are into on your forum. From experience, I've found most of the people will add you to their own circles. Of course, you will want to mention your site/posts, etc on your Google+ profile and highlight recent posts so people checking you out will know where to go for more info.
