So I have been wondering what people would like to see in a promotional forum. I mean you have posting packages, exchanges, battles, social media shares, directory, job area, and of course marketplace.

What else could be done? Don't be shy and share what you think could work.

What areas could be promoted as well. Forums, blogs, social media sites, video, and streaming just to name a few. Anything else to add to the list?

Thanks!

You could add Discord and Guilded promotion too! Would be great to see posting packages for Guilded/Discord servers and even Reddit too. You could try reviews, though they don't seem too popular these days. Wouldn't hurt to give it a shot though!

I think an interviews section would be neat. There were some admin/promotion forums in the past that used to have one.

I also agree with @Ravenfreak that a reviews section would be nice to see on a promotion forum as well.

To add to this...

You want to be unique and valuable with adding features that are already present on "competing" forums.

So, you can offer reviews but make it to where reviews are extremely detailed and you get known for making such detailed and elegant reviews. Sure it takes times. But that can be the one BIG thing you provide that your forum is known for.

Research great reviews online and develop a style.

Problem nowadays (imo) is the lack of communities. Most communities revolve around the same audience so having a promotional forum is much harder nowadays since there's already limited audience and thus that audience will already be around on most forums we know. Which makes additional promotional forums redundant.

That is realistically the truth sadly. However, if you'd like to proceed with this idea, by all means give it a shot. You're not losing anything when you keep it simple and you never know you could have a success if you don't give it a shot at all. I'd join. 😉

You would likely need to focus on more than just forums.

If I started a promotion forum (I'm not going to lol), I would focus on forums, blogs, modern communities, newsletters, and social media brands. Get them all involved. Give them all a place to promote.

No one is doing that yet.

It might be a winner.

I don't want to build that in reality but I'd join and be actvie on it.

Alot of good ideas here. Big issue is finding poeple to help out. Building teams for each area is hard to do. I am just thinking about it right now.
It really depends to be fair. You can start with limited staff or just yourself, you don’t need a complete team.

People often tend to create teams too big for its community. So why not give it a shot and see what audience you have on your forum? It’s best to scout for staff on your forum rather than people who aren’t there (yet).

It is hard to find just a few staff members these days. A promotional forum with you as the only staff members isn't a great way to start. If you have just the basics, it would be hard for one person to do just that.

I am thinking about paying people on Forum Bombers in real cash. Well Paypal that is. Thought about just expanding Forum Bombers to a promotional forum as well. Adding a co-admin may help as well.

That's probably a good idea, personally I would re-brand FB to something more promotion-obvious then.

Like to start talking about this more. Think of a new name for it. I am open to hearing ideas. I have a few in mind.

The idea here is to make a promotional site that covers alot more than just forums and blogs.

I thought about rebranding Forum Bombers, but I think using that name would be more confusing.

Area that I think the site could cover are forums, blogs, social media, discord, guilded, reviews, exchanges, job area, videos, streamers, battles, marketplace, directory, and of course forum/blog packages. More can be added of course.

Each area could be broken up. Like under battles, you could have a place for your forum and blogs to battle it out. But you could have battles for facebook vs facebook page. Or discord vs discord server.

One area that seems to have some interest is reviews. I would want to put someone in place to oversee these reviews. I think I would want them to be extremely detailed as @Shawn Gossman said above.

Use the credit mod so users can earn credits to use on these different things. Shop mod could be used as well. People can buy different things from it. And alot more.

Battles are fun if you can get members to participate, but it's hard to get them to be motivation, even with a yearly cash prize for the number one spot.

Staff team that is active so you know you'll get the posting packages in a timely manner, cool theme, and active community.

I would hope that staff would be active. Like to have managers or whatever they would be called watching out on this.

I may spend a few bucks on a new theme. I own a ton of mods already. Not sure I would need to buy to many of them. And yes, the site would be run on XF 2.3.3. Would use Forum Bombers lic. for it. 🙂

My thoughts are this:

Look at the existing forum promotion forums such as this one and this one and ask yourself, "what am I going to offer that is different to this? Am I going to be able to compete with established communities? What will differentiate me from my competitors?"

You are going to need to come at this from a different angle or people are just going to think of it as a.n.other site which is the same as what already exists.

Do keep us informed.

Admin-Junkies isn't an promotional forum. Well it wasn't before. I am not sitting here thinking that I need to compete with anyone. You would think people would want to have the forum they own on as many sites they can get it on.

Forum Bomber was an idea that I came up with. I think I need to think about that more and bring it back in a different way under the new site.

Anywho, we are going to be more than just a forum/blog promotion site. We will have some of the samething you see on FP. You need to have a directory, exchanges, job area, credits, shop, and a few other things just as any other promotional site.

Sorry if that came across as a negative. It’s wasn’t intended to be. I want to see everyone be successful with their communities. I know it’s tough. A lot of what you have suggested, reviews, battles, posting packages, already exist on those other sites that were mentioned. If you’re just going to be somewhere someone can list their site then that’s a top site listing. If you’re going to be more than that, then you’re a webmaster community - just like FP and AJ. Maybe I’m mistaken but that sound exactly like what you’re planning.

As for “people would want to have the forum they own on as many sites they can get it on.” That’s not necessarily true. I want my site listing on as many effective sites as necessary. I see no value in registering to post a thread about my forum on a site unless it has traffic and a good PR. I’m not active on FP or AJ because I see them as an opportunity to advertise my site, but because they’re useful resources for forum owners.

Forum Promotion is perhaps misnamed as it’s not just a place to promote your forum. If it was just that it wouldn’t work. It’s much more than just a place to promote and it seems your plans are much more than just promotion too.

Maybe I’m wrong.

So if you’re just going to have a forum to promote forums there needs to be a reward for my investment other than just sticking a link on a 0PR domain. What else are you - as the owner / operator of the promotion site - going to do to give me something back for listing my site? There has to be a value in my time.

If your response to the question is anything which is available on AJ or FP then you are not running a promotion forum but instead a webmaster discussion community and those sites mentioned above are your competitors- whether you like it or not.

Sorry if that came across as a negative.
No need for sorry. I need people to post because it helps me. Gets me thinking of different things about the whole project.

Everyone has an opinion and the way things are laided out. And it is good to hear and read what people think.
