Free world? If we are racially profiling these people, then how is this the free world? Of the countries you listed, only Spain is a truly free country. There are only a few countries that can be truly called "free" in our current world, and the USA is not one of those.

Well, not giving the government nearly unlimited power to spy on its citizens (USA PATRIOT Act) is a good start.

Avguste, who voted on it doesn't matter. Most of the democrats who voted on it were against it in its previous form when it came to congress in '05 again.

And sure it does help in some ways. A lot of the extra power the SOT got to regulate financial transactions and investigate terrorists' financiers was obviously helpful.
However, the right to detain anyone indefinitely who is suspected as a terrorist, the right to illegally eavesdrop without warrants, etc, is not the way to run a free country. Check out this article:

You could find a few more on the same topic. The fact is, when you give the government that much power, it will be abused, and not abused in a way to protect our nation.

Profiling at airports is not helpful to weeding out terrorists. What that does is only alienate the muslims who are peaceful and want to help their country. The fact is, airline screeners need to be trained to look for suspicious travelers. They need to know when someone looks like they are going to bring a bomb onto a plane, and then put that person into extra screening. If that person is white, muslim, black, whatever.. who cares! The point is racial profiling is totally useless and it doesn't help anyone.
