Rippers

A common issue facing many Websites and forums is "Rippers".

This morning I was made aware of a site that had pretty much identically ripped ForumPromotion's design and tweaked it to make it look like their own. So this got me thinking, has your forum's design or content ever been ripped, and what lengths do you reach to retaliate or make sure it doesn't happen again?

Hasn't happened to me since I use a free theme, but I check regularly on copyscape for copies of my blog. If you send a cease and desist type letter, even if its not official but you make it look real it should scare the rippers -😉-

You see, the problem is that what's logicial to the mature like you and I, doesn't apply to most 12 year olds on the internet. Unfortunately, many take advantage of the anonymity and go by the "I'm safe so long as I'm sat behind my computer screen and nobody can touch me" approach - which makes them think they have some kind of unwritten right to go around abusing people at their own will. Completely unprovoked in most cases.

Happened to me. From copying my board titles/desciptions word for word; And the forum design. Had a member who said my forum inspired him to make one ... but made a duplicate, lol.

As I explained yesterday, MHW, a quick letter to the host should do the trick.

As for ripping, several members of various communities have been 'inspired' by elements of the communities I create. I don't think their inspirations can be categorized as 'ripping.'

well they say copying is the sincerest form of flattery. -razz- That seems like some new user to me though, I would've just helped them a small bit make it unique and find a template for them if they sound like newbies and they are inspired by you -razz-

I think rippers are cack, i mean graphics rippers are just as bad. But they seem to be condemned more on forums. -lol-

Well, I have a couple of users that use to take all of my images I had on my forum and all f my ideas. So now, I have copyrights on my forum and if anyone tries taking anything of mine, they would get reported.
I absolutely hate people that copy ideas on other users' forums and jsut take all of the graphics. They are just sad that they can't find anything for themselves and that they don't want to create their own stuff because they are apparently 'lazy.' It just annoys me, and I hate copiers.

Some things from my forum got ripped today in fact. I simply PM'ed the ripper and asked them to remove the stolen stuff. They did, so no biggie.
There is really nothing you can do about rippers. If they are going to take something, they are going to take it. But that only hurts them in the long run because once their members / potential members find out that they are visiting a forum that is a cheap copy of another with stolen content, they probably wont want to remain active.

Alot of tutorials/guides got ripped from me , but google see it as ' duplicate content ' so its not as if they are earning from it.

I had a couple of people who copied things from Forum Adverts, other then that I haven't really had a problem with rippers.

Fortunately, we won the Copyright claims sent against against the site so they've been forced to remove ripped content, should it happen again they're liable to immediate suspension. ~cool~

So far, ForuMansion has been having it's new and UNIQUE ideas being stolen and placed on other promotion forums. Also, I've created a unique and un-used staff group a while called 'Universal Team', yet I've seen it used on over 15 forums already. It's getting really annoying that user's can get their own damn ideas and such for their own forum. They are too lazy and considered filth in my opinion. I've also seen some of ForuMansion's rules being copied on other forums, and those forums had the same exact text as my rules have. It's just sickening to see this kind of behavior with users these days. I've been so stressed out this whole week dealing with users copying my forum, including THE STAFF! There's a user named TigTrivers that was a team member on my forum that decided to steal some of my unique ideas from ForuMansion and then place them on his forum and expect something in return. The only thing he got in returned was having a policy that states all promotion forums are banned from having service at ForuMansion (but it's been unbanned now) and bein demoted from the team. If yuo want to read some mroe of my debates on this matter, then I have a huge thread on my forum with over 7 paragraphs per each of my posts on ForuMansion.

Don't you guys think that's stressing to come up with a new unique idea, and tou know it's going to be stolen right away. It's just like someone that has cancer and is just waiting in the hospital to die. If I had a chance to get my hands on the people that ripped off my forum in real life, then you'll understand.

Ive never had anything stole from SciFi Zone, because its so small.
