Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

Honestly, you replies to threads suck. Somebody said a bunch of nice stuff about the forum, and you replied with one word; Thanks.

That doesn't make people come back.

Agree with this - it was one of the first things I saw as well.

Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

Well, I meant thank you. Most people like to criticize me for some odd reason and I was expressing my gratitude that he at least felt that my efforts were worthwhile.

Also, as most of FP is loyal to the Dark Side of the Force, I am grateful to those who don't criticize me like most here seem to do. :shake:

Anyway, JCF is going to unban me within a few hours and then I'll, hopefully, get a ton of new members at my forum and then I'll probably get more notice from many of you that want me to go away because I don't have a big forum(or is it just Darth Maul that is of that opinion?).

I must confess that I find the attitude of at least half of FP to be pretty cold and would have left had it not been for guys like LoneWolf and ShadyX and a few others long ago. I said thanks.

Guess I could say, glad you liked it.

Yes, I am grateful to those who helped me get posts and I'm going to do something to help them.

It make take an hour or so to implement, but though I had considered doing this anyway for a while, after that anger expressed at me in the posts above, to show my appreciation.

I'm going to add them all to my forum sponsor page.

:great: 😉

Will try to even have a subforum with their logo if I can.

Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

It's not that I was trying to be mean, but I know what makes a successful forum, because in my opinion I own one. I would have already joined, but like people said above, you niche is a little too specific for most people.

Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

I should get more people for Jedi Council Forums to join my forum.

That ban shoulda expired yesterday, not today, I found out. However, as it should have expired in the morning, even if it was today, it should have gone away by now.

They did say "4 months pending some discussion" but never sent me anything to say that it had been extended so I feel justified in posting with a sock, both to wait the unban and to PM them to get me to be unbanned as I needed 20 posts to PM.

Anyway, my forum looks pretty good now.

I can add more categories and stuff though my central theme isn't gonna change, as that's why I made the forum in the first place.

I can make it appeal to more and more people, but am not going to change the central theme.

It would ruin the whole purpose of the forum pretty much if I did that.

Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

I've made quite a few changes to the forum.

Though the user may be confused about all the possible style choices, the default one, though currently a Fourth of July style, will be one that I made based off a Star Trek template combined with another template.

I recently added moods for the profiles and such, but can't get any images, at least so far, to go with them.

Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

not a big sw fan but good luck

Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

Ok, so why aren't people joining my forum? I've tried lots of things.

Ok, I have a plan. I'm gonna create a ton of socks and then post with them to make it look like I have a lot more activity than I actually do.

Also, the more posts and members, the higher I'll be in the online search engines.

Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

Is my forum really that bad?

It got 0/10 on a review.
However, as the site is down right now, or at least for me it is. Don't know how Tindris got in.

Anyway, I'm going to make entire board one style.

Nothing will be quite perfect looking, ever.

I nned more members all the same.

However, while my forum is down, I've going to reformulate the structure for it.

1.) I think I should only have demo category, including style demos, available to admins and mods.

2.) I'd like to get a real admin and/or mod to help. I'm trying to get two at the moment actually.

3.) I'm going to try my best on the style, though a defectless style seems unlikely as I'm not my own designer.

4.) If all goes well, I may, in future, buy a TLD, though I'd prefer to win one from FP.
Just as long as my site doesn't crash or become impossible to view if the FP domain expires.
5.) I'm going to decrease number of usergroups. Maybe, other than admin, mod, regular user, and banned, I may only make one new usergroup for every say, 100 users I get, and if I get a lot, the amount might increase to say, every say, 10000 users I get.
6.) Will try to decrease the amount of categories (or at least make them more refined.)
7.) While refusing to cease being an Ahsoka lovers' forum, I will try and make it more friendly toward non-Ahsoka fans. I may even ease up the rules, though not totally. I'm not giving up the reason I made the forum in the first place.
8.) I've tried post exchange but nobody is replying, even though I've helped some of them but they haven't helped back. I can try again though.
9.) I need regular members but don't know how to keep them.
10.) I should probably get rid of all the links, including those who posted here, as it might look unprofessional. The only ones I should probably keep are Jedi Council Forums and the Ahsoka Tano wiki page link and the link to a map of the Star Wars galaxy (another wiki page.) May later include a link to Wookipedia main page.
11.) Sometimes I got weird lightsaber images over the subforums and can't seem to get rid of them, though, believe me, I've tried. Also, I can't always tell what others can view. Once I tested a style out and the preview was different from how it actually looked in the forum itself.
12.) Maybe I shouldn't let everyone make polls, at least not til they get a certain rank or get put in a certain group. However, if the forum takes off enough, this could be a nightmare adding people to the group that allows them to make polls, I can't, that I know of, set it so that the poll making is based on user rank.
13.) I should probably make it so that guests can only post in the Guest Forum, like I did in the past.
14.) However, to get more people in, I'm going to allow the other side, the view opposed to me and my forum's view, to get at least a whole category to defend and justify their beliefs without having to break the rules.
15.) I may hide Mod and Admin forum to only be visible to mods and admins and therefore not need the password anymore.
16.) I'll probably set the account email confirmation to discourage spammers and so the forum will look more professional.

Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

Style looks great. Keep that as the style 😉

Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

Thanks.

How are you guys getting in the forum? I can't get in. Message forums.net is down.

Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

Link in your sig works just fine 😉

Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

Yeah, Jedi. Your link works perfectly for me. 🙂

Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

Why won't it work for me then? All message forums links aren't working for me.

Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

Trying clearing your Cache and resetting your modem 🙂

Also, I wouldn't say memberless right of the bat. That's like applying for a job and saying "I know you wont hire me... but.."

Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

Good point THT. I reccomend changing the thread name to something like "SOS-Save our Snips" or something of that nature 😉

Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

How do you clean the catche and reset the modem?

-- 06 Jul 2011, 17:51 --

It says the server isn't responding.

Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

What browser are you using?

Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

Firefox, though I've also tried Explorer, Chrome, and Safari with no luck either.

It almost seems like the problem is only associated with my computer.

Re: Promoting new (and sadly memberless pretty much) forum

Alright, well then I cannot help you there. But to clear your cache on FF go to:
Options>Advanced>Network>Clear now(should be next to some text telling you about your cache usage)
