School Detentions

Also, the law does permit the principal to remove a student from the school if they cause trouble etc. (Australia at least)
So you'd rather get expelled from school for a small offense instead of attending a detention? That's not a fun thing to have on your record.

lol well thats pretty much all schools. My school spent their funding on new macs like 3 years ago, now they're completely broke and firing more and more teachers every year, the administration clearly has no idea how to manage their money

That's not really the case. Students just don't want to get into trouble, do all the visit the teacher thing, and calling the parent situation. They just don't want that to happen. I think getting a lecture from your parents is far worse than your teacher.
Well than if they don't to go through the hassle they shouldn't be doing stupid shit and they'll stop getting detentions.

School detentions = pointless.

They teach no discipline, they're easy to get out of, and no one in my school serves theirs because our principal gets everyone out of them.

Detention is just a joke. Im not the best well rounded student, but Ive been in detention for stuff that in real life you wouldnt go to jail for...For instance some kid charged at me a couple weeks back and I had to use self defense...I just shoved the kid away, but the kid went and said he was having chest pain...I ended up in a 2 and a half hour detention...

Also, in my school if you skip a detention you get suspended. Schools are todays prisons anyway...

That's ridiculous. That's where you get up, show your teacher the finger and get the hell out of there.

If only it was that easy. I would just walk out. I mean, they can't physically stop you (not allowed, at least).

I would then have to deal with a suspension....Just rather sit there and fiddle my thumbs for 2 and a half hours, then get suspended..

I never, ever go to detention. If I'm given detention, I just skip it. Those idiots are not going to force me to stay at that hell hold any longer. I feel sorry for the people who get Saturday detention.

Theres not Saturday detentions at my school. I know someone who got a detention at the end of the year, so he had to serve it the next year after summer break.

Man it sounds like you're detentions are terrible compared to ours.

That is just stupid.

My school has Saturday detentions. So lame. I feel sorry for the teachers.

All the posts in here are really starting to bother me.. it's not as simple as " don't go " or " walk out ".
You need to remember, the school administration/teachers are incharge when we are at school. Don't get your roles reversed. It's not going to benefit you in any way possible.

Not true. Since teachers are controlled by some governing body, there is a set ratio of teachers to students. If students decide to leave, that will cost a teacher their job. Students can act as a whole body and strike against teacher's actions; students opt in to choosing to go to class, and the teacher can't physically do anything; students can decide not to go to school etc.

Though it may not be a benefit, if you are mistreated by teachers, I'm sure this type of action is necessary for you own wellbeing.

Punishment should only be if someone's done something wrong deliberately so...something stupid like forgetting your book should not = detention.

It teaches responsibility. If someone is forgetful, then yeah they deserve to be punished for it.
