Should all forums be age restricted ?

teenagers and adults and can get sarcasm
It's a case by case thing - some kids are more mature than others.

Notice how your forum isn't exactly very "active" right now - probably because you're pushing away the age group that is easy to advertise to, and if they like your forum will tend to post a lot.
It's very easy to type in "1991" ie. for age, and most people do lie about their ages.

Anyway, I don't think forums shuold be age restricted at all.

The point is, my forum is generated towards gamers(not kids),teenagers,BlazBlue Fans and adults.

A kid would ruin all of that and would take the forum's rep down some too, plus people would probably be asking "Srsly, are you underage?" or something like that.

Honestly, most gamers are kids like your self, so shh!
Please if you could split a joke it would be with a banana! Was that innapropiate enough for your forum or will I get caled a troll?
At least 8/10 of my friends including a few girls are gamers and some of them are under 11 and they have better grammar than you and could fit on your board anyday.

Well it's a psychological thing I seem to suffer from, mostly due to trolling and shizz on some forums in the past, I act mature sometimes and immature the next, I'm still a bit of a kid inside, but I have a age limit on my forum, because what was it someone said at the first post?

15 is the best age. Little kids are annoying sometimes.

The age limit is on my forum, because of various content on my forum, that is not appropriate for children, common use of strong language, and the fact my game will contain blood and gore.

So you have just admitted your a kid which you don't want on your forum, gs!
Ooh, blood and gore - go complain to all the 11 - 16 year old parents that let their kids play CoD.

Your gonna be great with children xD

Honestly if 15 year olds is your restriction on your forum, and you have acted a kid because of a ''physocological'' thing that happened years back then why not ban yourself.

Personally I started joining forums since I was 11 and FP was one of them.

To me it depends on the forum genre and is up to the discretion of the forum owner.

Nah. If a community wants to ban people who are immature, I don't think they should try to filter out most of them by banning people who are really young. They should just ban everyone who is too immature to be a part of the community, know what I mean? There are some pretty old people who are immature.

I came to forums when I was 12 and it was a strange place to be, however I knew how to type with capitalization and punctuation, the kids nowadays have no idea how to which becomes a pain. 😛 The age limit of 13 seems most appropriate, it is the internet, kids are on it with Facebook and Twitter's so. 😛

Not at all. I mean regardless all you have to do is just say you are older. There are many kids who act far more mature than their age requires and adults who act far more immature than their age should.

I don't think there should be any age restrictions. I had an 8 year old active on my forum once, and he was actually more mature than some people in their 20s. As long as the forum is appropriate for that age group.

13 is the age limit where a kid can have a Facebook page or Twitter account so I think 13 is an acceptable age for someone to be able to be a member of a forum. However, that only applies to certain forums in my opinion. If someone has a general discussion forum, then that is fine. But if you have a forum that discuss' serial killers and the mystery of Jack the Ripper, then you will have to set up certain precautions so that someone who is too young to discuss those things doesn't find their way onto your forum. Like Hissae said, as long as everything is age appropriate then that is one thing.

I don't think all forums should be age-restricted... It really depends on the niche of your forum honestly. I know that most forum members must be at least 13 years old, but I think as long as a parent or guardian is aware of the forums their kids visit then it should be okay for a young child to join a forum.

I wouldn't say all forums should be age restricted, but if your forum uploads NSFW content, then yeah you should restrict your forums.

I had a lot of 12-13 year old users visit my forums, and they behave quite nicely. Just make sure you have moderators around in case things get out of hand, because at that age, they can easily spark drama.

No, because a lot of people will just lie about their age to register, unless of course it's a very specific adult topic that kids won't understand. 🙂

If the topic is not going to be understood by people I see a point such as internet management, although that would be blocking me from learning about how to manage my site better. 😀

I think that COPPA should be a law. I have seen some pretty mature 12 year olds, but I don't feel that anyone under 13 should be allowed on forums. The only forums I think should have restrictions beyond COPPA is adult forums. Those should be 18+.

The restriction should depend on the niche of the forum. If the content is appropiate for the kid, allow them, otherwise, set an age limit.

Yes, yes they should. The reason we put a PG13 restriction on our website is liability for content.
