No. It's a simple technique to stop spammers. It also prevents people from claiming to be someone else. Never remove that. 😛

Nope, it prevents a lot of spammers like Rick Ace said and not to mention bots.

While it is said often it prevents spam, which may be true, but most modern bots nowadays get around email activation. There is a plugin for mybb (and maybe other software) which executes a javascript function, and if it doesn't give a response then the user/bot is denied access to registration. This prevents most spam as virtually no bots have javascript execution.

🙂

EDIT: though I think it's more useful to test if that really is a functional email you can annoy members with. haha

I have never used E-mail verification on my forum, and have never had one bot. It may help in some cases, and in others it may not be necessary.

I think it should not be removed. Besides acting as a first line of defense against spammers, it also gives us a verified email to send newsletters to.

To me it depends. Most spammers that visit my site are real people with garbage yahoo accounts. I don't think it matters. Also if your site has an email filter, you can block all spam or temp. email accounts.

What's that plugin called? 😀

Also guys, then how come FP recommends that you remove email verification when requesting for posting package? :/

Because Packagers can complete the packages in less time if they don't have to do email verification 😉

That is merely a recommendation to help us out. It is not compulsory. Most forums requesting packages tend not to be in a situation where email validation is needed as much aswell. Bigger forums (like us) that need email validation to help stop idiots causing trouble tend not to request packages.

Yes, this is to help packagers complete requests. 🙂 It's only recommended that you do this from the time the package is requested, and it is completed.

FP doesn't recommend that you remove it for good.

It takes 30 seconds for someone to join your forums. I have it active because of the spammers.
