Should The American Health Service Be Like The NHS

The National Health Service (NHS) is the publicly funded healthcare system in England. The NHS provides healthcare to anyone normally resident in the UK with most services free at the point of use for the patient though there are charges associated with eye tests, dental care, prescriptions, and many aspects of personal care.

Medical bills are the most common reason for personal bankruptcy in the United States.[169] In 2005, 46.6 million Americans, or 15.9% of the population, were uninsured, 5.4 million more than in 2001. The primary cause of the decline in coverage is the drop in the number of Americans with employer-sponsored health insurance, which fell from 62.6% in 2001 to 59.5% in 2005.[88] Approximately one third of the uninsured lived in households with annual incomes greater than $50,000, with half of those having an income over $75,000.[170] Another third were eligible but not registered for public health insurance.[171] In 2006, Massachusetts became the first state to mandate health insurance;[172] California is considering similar legislation.[173]

Personally, I think the government is just fine. Its the people that are doing something stupid.

Re: USA

I think it's both the government and a lot of the people who are corrupt. You've got the government taxing the hell out of everything and using that money to provide for everyone, because a lot of people out there expect the government to do everything for them. That's why I don't agree with free healthcare. The NHS is a joke. If it pays for everyone's healthcare, where does it get it's money from? Taxes, which come from the people. Their is no such thing as free healthcare.

Re: USA

Our government is in debt. I forget the number but I think it's something like 9 trillion dollars.

If you pay taxes, nothing is free... The only way you get to live free in the US is if you're illegal. -redface-

Yes we should have a health care system like europe!!!!!! Come on america, get with the program!

Re: USA

We don't have the same health care system as the rest of Europe, Europe isn't a country its a continent. So saying lets get the same as Europe is wrong as that means you would be getting lots of different systems.

And its free in the sense we don't have to pay medical insurance to go to hospital, like if i walked in with a broken leg they wouldn't check me out to see if i had medical insurance.

Re: USA

I think the medical facilities in the US overcharge

I am english and my family went to new york where my dad caught legionaire's disease.

My sister was alone so they let her sleep in a spare bed in the pediatrics ward

A week ago, which is about a month after everyone returned home we got a letter charging us £3000 for my sister's overnight stay in a hospital bed and a breakfast

Sorry that should not even of come to £50

Re: USA

The United States, even though I live there ~razz~ , is one the dumbest countries when it comes down to the government in my opinion. They just do not know a good idea when it is there, and if it is there, they ruin it.

Re: USA

Stop. That simple, stop. The UK has a system that works for them, let them use it. The USA doesnt, we all know this. That does NOT mean their system would work for us. Its not the Government in general, its the idiots we elect into office. Try voting for better people and better things will come of it.

Re: USA

I would like to see our taxes after this. I personally believe that if we get socialized health care, all the people who can't afford to get anything will go to the hospital for small things like getting sick. This will cause taxes too be raised, and everybody will be paying. I as against national health care but I think people should receive assistance from the government to find health care. The way offline puts it, it makes it look like the USA is evil. It isn't, we are just a more conservative government than other countries.
