Not at all, it greatly controls the quality of videos that appear in the front page. Removing the dislike button and keeping the like button would really not make sense. Why should users be able to express the liking for the video and not the dislike?

Honestly, I never bothered with the numbers, haha. I usually visit YouTube to watch Korean music videos, and sometimes fans can have wars in clicking likes and dislikes for music videos of people they hate. And this can happen in general too. Much like the comments section. It becomes a humor to me, reading comments. XD
While you don't have to trust the like/dislike button too much for that possibility, you should also consider that there may be honest dislikes, which means someone voted dislike for a valid reason. That's where you get your feedback. I'll just take the positive side. 😛

I read there are content creators who pay for likes on Social media sites like YouTube, Facebook, and other social sites, so the likes could be from people who were payed to like a video.
Other video creators may use Bots/scripts to like their own videos with fake accounts they bought, or created themselves.
The people who pay for likes, and use bots to like a video may make the Like/dislike poll on the video inaccurate.

I enjoy the old 1 to 5 star rating for YouTube more since it was more accurate. There are some videos I like, but also don't like, so I gave them a 2 or a 3, and there are some videos which are worth a 4 because they were not amazing and not worth a 5 out of 5 stars.
For videos which had bad audio, and poor video quality, or the video was too long, I gave them a 1 star.
I feel the like and dislike poll is more suited for sites like Facebook, and Google Plus where people are less likely to score a post or photo out of 5 stars.

I don't keep track of who makes videos unless they're actually good at making videos, funny, interesting or useful. I'll subscribe to them in that case...And if they make a crappy video then I'll hit dislike.

People just want to keep moving towards a world where nobody can get feedback. We've reached this mindset where kids need to be constantly reinforced (which just creates kids with mindsets that they're awesome when they actually need to improve), and people need to be shielded from criticism.
We need a balance of positive reinforcement and truth. Taking away the dislike button on Youtube is just ANOTHER form of making it harder for people to know when to improve.
No they shouldn't. Bad videos should be disliked and marked as hated by a large group of people, to show that said videos are bad quality.
Besides, how you ever going to learn from your mistakes if you only see who likes it? Remove this button, and all you end up doing is making a video which would otherwise have say, 'five likes and 20 dislikes' look like a good video to the person who uploaded it.

The only reason that happens is because you've either pissed someone off or your videos suck.Yudistira said:

People who have their videos disliked probably deserve it, and probably because their videos suck. And who cares anyways? It's just YouTube. It's just the internet.

I notice the total views usually greatly out number the people who voted like or dislike, so getting rid of the rating system could slightly help improve page loading performance for people on dial-up, slower internet connections or share one internet connection with multiple people and devices, and who own slower computers, tablets, and Smartphones for watching YouTube.
I watch a video on YT which said a lot of people on YouTube are not members, or logged into YouTube, and a large percentage of the views on YouTube videos are from outside YouTube from people embeding videos on forums, blogs, and sites, so a large portion of the video's viewers can't like or dislike a video because they are not YouTube members, or not logged in.
YouTube may have more people stay longer on their site if the YouTube player and website loads slightly faster because there is less javascript, html, and other codes to load, and there isn't a dislike and like image file to load on the site.
YouTube video creators already have YouTube video analytics which have information on viewer engagement, length of time viewers stayed to watch the video, and other graphs which help YouTubers learn which videos have viewers staying to watch most of the video, and which videos have low view times.

I find it similar to the reddit Upvote/Downvote system! It's a useful way of the people choosing what they want. The randomers are also on reddit with the disliking of everything that is "popular", and that still gets on fine as they are just a small minority.
Whereas just having "Like" would just push those Dislikers in to commenting on more things, usually in this trolling manner.
