Skype chats?

I'd prefer to not use Skype as a staff room. It'll get too hectic and casual.

Also I'm never on Skype anymore.

I use skype for communication though I may setup Discord now

I don't know anyone that still uses Skype, so I haven't done much with it in the past 4 or 5 years.

Skype is honestly a thing of the past at this point. Discord has taken everyone by storm and continues to grow and a extremely fast pace. I am finding it more rare by the day to find even a single person on the internet that still uses Skype at all. All Skype has for it at this point is it live cam.

Skype is also very bloated and much more heavier on a PC system and uses more bandwidth from your ISP than it should require for such a program. While Discord that offers everything Skype has, plus more and better user friendly environment and interface.

Do you use a Skype chat as a staff room? Why or why not?

I have one for my forum, but no one talks in it. I could delete it and I'm sure no one would notice. xD

I used skype for all my staff chats but switched to slack. I'm not sure why really I just find it looks better and has more what I want. Call me an evil dictator but I used to give my staff crap for not using the skype chat. The whole point of why I did the staff chat was to engage the team in communicating with each other.

I don't use it just because the emotions are too bad, I prefer Yahoo Messenger's but sadly none of my friend use it anymore 🙁

There's an upside and a downside to this.

Skype chats are awesome when you need to get hold of other members of staff fast. Some of us are friends on Facebook as well.

However, timezones can mean excluding some people from important discussions. Our mods are from all over the world. If a topic is very important, it should be discussed in a thread in the staff forum to give everyone a chance to have their say.

We stopped using Skype because the mod forum died for a while on the old site. Mods went inactive and were slacking because they felt like the Skype thing was all that they needed to do and that was mostly socialising since very little was happening week to week. XD. It was voice chat of course, so no record kept. When someone suggested Skype on the new site, I was like "Nope. Bad idea!" It's okay for monthly checkins. We do have an IRC chatroom too for contacting folk and admins often chat together via FB chat or Skype regarding backend stuff.

I have skype on my phone but I haven't bothered to create an account for it. I don't know anyone who uses it so why bother?

I think Skype is a good way to communicate with your staff members. It's easy for text chatting and voice chatting, along with the ability to be able to and receive messages while offline.

My team never used Skype.

We tried Slack first and then recently switched to Discord.
