When it comes to smartphones these days, there are hundreds of different offers out there, it makes it difficult to choose the right one for you.

Personally I'm on a contract as I would not have been able to pay for the phone outright itself, even although it means i'll end up paying more in the long run. Some people choose pay as you go because they don't want to be tied into a contract.

Do you have a contract or not?

I don't own a phone now since I don't really need one since my home phone is good enough for me.

I used to have a Prepaid (pay as you go) phone since I just need a phone for calling people or a taxi to pick me up, or in emergencies when I had to travel farther away from home where being stuck without a phone can be inconvenient.

I think as the price of Smartphones become more affordable like Nokia Asha, Firefox OS phone, and cheaper Android phones from Chinese smartphone makers like ZTE, Lenovo, and Xiaomi, more people will go prepaid because they can afford a $80-100 phone. Plus, Google Android 4.4 Kitkat, and Firefox OS are suppose to work well on smartphones with slower CPUs, and only 512MB of RAM.

So you don't have a mobile at all? I think I would be struggling because I use mine for work, when I'm out, emergencies etc. I basically use my phone for everything 🙂

I signed a contract with Verizon because I love their service. I had Virgin Mobile, for us Americans, and their converge was very spotty. I don't think I could ever go back to having a prepaid device with the repaid coverage 🙁

I own an Android tablet which can be consider a mobile, but without the calling and SMS features. I use Facebook Messenger, and Google Talk on my tablet if I need to contact someone, and I don't have access to a PC with internet. Most of the mobile apps for phones are available for tablets.

I find my home phone with an answering machine good enough, and using varies Instant messengers and e-mail on the PC and tablet is good for non-voice chat.

Ah I see, I had visions of you with just a house phone with no other way to access people 😛

I'm curious, why would you want a PAYG over a contract?

My usage is very sporadic and violatle. Sometimes I'll use data over my limit one month, and the next I won't even scratch it. Same with the minutes. I'm paying for hundreds of minutes I never use. Of course, they are rollover, but I'll never touch them.

I see, I suppose I'm a bit like that, but only with the minutes, I tend to use everything else. I'm trying more and more to use my mobile for any calls regardless of where I am to use up the minutes I am paying for.

I have PAYG. For £15 a month, you get 3000 texts, 300 minutes and unlimited data. The advantages of this is there's no contract, so you if one month you don't need your phone you don't have to pay, and you can switch providers easily if one offers a better deal.

That is a pretty good deal for PAYG, who are you with? Three?

Dang, it makes my contract look like a complete rip off!

I get a lot of people that come in wanting a new phone the first word out of their mouth is: No contract please. It is happening more and more these days. Do you think the costs of contracts is causing this? The commitment?

I use both, so I own 2 different numbers in here... I don't have problems using them..

I think for certain phones, the contract prices are just ridiculous.

Yeah and if you're buying a high End phone, any phone for that matter I want the freedom to switch networks.
