Switching from a paid software to a free one can be considered "a step down" if thats how you want to look at it.Smitty Fan said:pandaa said:I think as long as you can point out that the change won't adversely affect the community, and make sure that a professional look is maintained, I don't mind transfers. I agree with this. Although isn't moving from IPB to MyBB a step down for you, Theezy? Wober has been with IPB as long as I can remember. If that site would look good on anything, I'd say it'd look good on Xenforo, but that's just me. Although you're stepping down to MyBB, I'm sure you can turn Wober into something amazing, Theezy, because I've seen your theme work in the past with phpBB and even Vbulletin, and you guys come out with some amazing stuff.

Its a step up for my wallet, thats for sure :cheer:
The reason I am converting is to avoid the renewal fees. Why trade one problem for another problem?Smokey said:Like others have stated Theezy, I would consider converting to say Xenforo rather then MyBB. the license itself is cheaper and renewal fees are much cheaper then IPB. Roughly $40/yr rather then $50+ a year.
Well then you won't be able to get away from that except by going with a free solution. That being said, MyBB is an okay choice....does seem like bit of a downgrade though.theezy said:The reason I am converting is to avoid the renewal fees. We do not have enough traffic to make any money from advertising.Fergal said:Why not sell an ad slot, to cover the licence renewal?
Yeah, our new theme will be very similar to that IPB theme we're using. That way members wont feel alienated or lost.kavin said:Get that theme ported to MyBB and it will be good.
Given the volume of posts on your forum, I'm pretty confident that you could earn $25 from advertising every six months. For example it shouldn't be difficult to sell six month button ads or no-follow text links at $10 or more each.theezy said:We do not have enough traffic to make any money from advertising.

Congratulations! I lurked the forum whilst you were on IPB and now on Mybb and I can't see any reason why this change should hurt Wober. The forum looks great! 🙂
