Software

Yes, some member of the forum pointed out that the software has to much bugs, plus it would be a fresh start, easy to use & install modifications, has nice tutorials on how to work your board and it has become really popular over the past few months, I would reccommend it.

All software have bugs and phpBB does not have more then other softwares really. None impact us here.

Thanks for the info,

I might start a forum using MYBB and then maybe change TopGearForum onto MYBB.
Thanks,

However keep in mind that the folks behind FP has much more technical know how than the target audience of FP (newer webmasters). Thus, it would be a positive thing to recommend the easiest software to use to members, rather than one you know will give people problems.

Personally I would say you need to get a copy of MyBB and play with it. Install it on your server and see how things work. If you like it better than phpBB, make the switch. If not, you haven't lost anything.

I'm a huge fan of MyBB myself and I generally recommend people new to self hosted forums to use it. The reason? It's fairly easy to maintain. It has all the features you should need right out of the box and installing plugins is fairly easy too.

Now if you have a lot of technical expertise, phpBB3 works too. As Fowler pointed out many times, one click plugin installations do have their downsides. Personally though, I'd rather spend the time installing modifications better by posting on my forum.

He is already using phpBB3 with mods installed. I wasn't recommending any software in my post. I was just pointing out the flaw in Lawsons statement.

Well I'm not going to lean to a software on this, because as usual I would say phpBB3.

I say ask your members, if they want to move to myBB move, but if they don't stay with phpBB3 😉

MyBB is great. Very customizable, no file edits in mod install (except one file for Google SEO, but you get around that because he provides you an edited version of the file you have to mod), and is very simple to both admin and post in. The Merge script is just fantastic as well.
