Also, I am joining in on the blackout tomorrow for 12 hours.

And what do you hope to gain by doing this, as I just said else where it won't make any difference, how many tom dick or harry sites blackout for the day, those who have the power to push through these new laws will have already made a choice and you and other closing a site for a day will not even bother them, while it might make you feel good and you making a difference you not. This is not to say I am in favour of these new laws as I'm not I just think it is pointless people closing their site in protest. 😛

I don't recommend anyone shut down their website or forum either, unless you're receiving some serious traffic to make an impact. It's amusing to see how well Namecheap has done with domain transfers and whatnot.

EDIT: No, the bills are dead but the idea is still up. Look up the Protecting Children from Internet Pornographers Act of 2011. Hint: it has little to do with protecting children from internet pornographers and more about keeping an accurate log of all internet activity for up to 18 months.

To show the hatred for sopa, look at godaddy. A loved hosting service most people would not leave for the world (I do not use them). They stated they was with sopa, and lost a quarter of their members, and millions of dollars within just a day. They then had to apologetise and said that they now want to do away with sopa.

SOPA is dead though, the new threat is ACTA. If we sign this treaty that will do the same thing, we are agreeing by law with all other countries who sign this to do it, thus causing the dead SOPA to be passed any way.
