Staff all from the same area?

So what are your thoughts about having most or all of your staff from your immediate area?

I don't think that is a good idea as it is best to have staff in all different time zones if possible otherwise the forum will be unmoderated while everyone is asleep if everyone is in the same timezone.

I guess Fowler summed it up. On one of my first forums over a year ago, I had staff that were all from my town.

That did not work out much. ~confuse~

I think fowler brought up a valid point, but i dont think its something i'd start replacing staff over.

Yeah I know of a couple forums where all the admins and moderators + a chunk of the rest of the staff is all from the same area. When I go on there at some time of the day there is never any staff online for hours at a time. Then at other times they are all online at once. If someone were to watch that pattern, they could just wait until the 'no-staff' time and go do their damage. As they would get the most enjoyment out of it because staff wont come clean it up for hours and hours.

Not only that, but I think it's really rather hard to work with people you know in real life. Fights afk can turn to them doing real damage to your community when they know you have basketball practice, for example.

I have a few who I know afk and are part of the Ghost Webz Network team, and it works well. That's simply because I keep control at all times, and if they do anything I know where they live and always carry eggs with me -lol-

I don't mind, I make sure that there isn't a huge gap inbetween login times but I'm on late at night & I trust my community so far.

I always work out my staff. Make sure there are some from USA, UK, Finland, places like that.

Well I don't think it matters, but the compromise will be you will have less activity during the night in your timezone.

A message saying you need some cool arctic peeps to join up. I kinda agree with this, and kinda not. I don't think it's fair to say that when a smaller forum may only be active during certain hours causing people in other time zones to get bored and leave. That would hurt your global staff hiring to some extent.

Bottom line, if you don't want to offend less than 5% of the people, hire global instead of local.

Very good point since our board does claim to be open for everyone,so we have a international Staff.

If you have staff from the same country certainly does not mean you are racist, that is a really stupid comment. We have staff from all over the place here but when I am looking for staff as long as they do the job well I couldn't care less where they are from.

People who live in different timezones could be technically classed as a different race of people, so it could be classified as racist.

If I have 10 staff here and all 10 are English it does not mean I am racist.

At least know what racism is before you go saying things like that.
