The Conner Robinson Appeal

A small update for everyone.....

Conner is doing fine, the high dose chemo is kicking in now, making him very sleepy and sick but doctors are very optimistic that the drug won't do as much damage to his body as they first feared. Today he has his last 4 doses and they start the stem cell replacement on Monday.

On the down side....
Conner's dad Darren was taken ill on Tuesday evening, he collapsed and had to be rushed to A&E, he's now in a different hospital awaiting surgery to have his Gallbladder removed, which should hopefully be today? Poor Sarah, as if she doesn't have to worry about enough!!!

Keep this family in your thoughts and prayers, God only knows, they most certainly need them! 🙁

Conner is doing well so far, everything is going to plan still, this next week or so is a tricky time but all is ok so far, I'll keep you up to date as soon as I speak to his mum and dad properly........and his Dad is now all fixed and back with the family too 🙂
 
£36.19 ? How much is that in US funds? I know hospitals are pretty expensive here in the States, especially if long term stays are expected.

We are lucky to have the NHS (National Health Service) here in the UK so the treatment is free, the family don't have to worry about medical bills. The money raised so far is helping the family to keep their home while they are away in a different city, obviously while the big treatment is taking place Conners dad can't go to work, he is a long distance lorry driver and while his mind is elsewhere he would be a liability to the public and to himself so our fund allows him to be with his son and not have to worry about paying his rent and utility bills 🙂
 
Things have become a bit more rough the past few days, Conner is being transferred onto HDU (High Dependency) He's developed a few problems, there's a fluid build up on his lung again and he's in a severe amount of pain, with some bleeding. Luckily he's on a high dose of morphine which keeps him sleepy.
We always knew this stage was the bad one but it still hurts to hear and see. Please please send your thoughts and prayers as this roller-coaster takes another dip, God only knows how much this family have endured already so any healing thoughts will be gratefully received 🙁
 
Hopefully all goes well. 🙁 He's obviously a very strong little guy if he's already gotten this far. As painful as it is, I think he'll pull through. 🙁

I really wish I could donate, but I have some issues with Paypal. 🙁 If I ever get those resolved, I'll definitely donate what I can!
 
A quick update for you all, Conner is still down in Birmingham, he's still suffering from some of the side effects of the high dose, he's having some fluid issues which are effecting his breathing, the doctors hope it will right itself without surgical intervention for now, he's being treated for VOD. This part of the treatment was always going to be the worst and the hardest to recover from. His blood counts are still very sketchy yet too.
keep sending your thoughts and prayers, this goes a good way to helping the family get through this nightmare xxx

According to his mum, the hospital are not overly concerned, it's all in a days work for them and this is just the norm for the kind of treatment he's had......must be heart wrenching for his parents to see day in and day out though 🙁
 
I can't even imagine how horrible it must be. 🙁 It makes me feel bad for getting upset over the trivial things in my daily life when people are actually going through things like this. 🙁
 
Hope the little guy gets better soon! 🙁 Too bad I won't get a Paypal account for a super long time.

We really are very touched by the compassion and generosity of the members here. It's so heart warming to know that people young and old care enough to donate their hard earned cash to our appeal.

There's no real improvement so far in Conners condition as of yet, things are no better but they are also no worse, I really don't know how long this will go on for, usually by now things are sorted and he would be back home again but as I've said this stage was always going to be the toughest?
Because the treatment has been so long and rough this time we have had to use up over £1000 of the fund to cover 2 months rent, gas and electricity, telephone and car insurance costs....so you can see that your donations really ARE helping to make a difference, the pressure is off the family, all they need to do is concentrate on being with their son and supporting his recovery.

I'm assuming that NHS is a similarity to Medicare in the US? Because I know with Medicare, it doesn't always work with big operations and things like that that are likely to be seriously expensive, but even they are kind of good too, because some operations and whatever else, well, medicare may cover half of it. I think it all depends on what you have to have done. But it almost always covers regular checkups and whatever all. I don't know what the policy is in the UK, but as I said, Medicare won't cover all major operations. I know my mom was in the hospital a while back, and since she found out that she didn't have to stay the night. Medicare wouldn't cover the operation because everything was so minor and the dr said she didn't have to stay the night. Now if she had to stay the night for whatever reason, the I'm sure Medicare would probably cover the overnighter.
 
Here in the UK the NHS covers everything that is required as a medical necessity, most procedures are done during the day and you don't have to stay in but even if you do it's all covered the same. The only thing the NHS does not cover automatically are things like cosmetic surgery, boob jobs, non essential things....however you can sometimes get these done on the NHS if you cry loud enough.

All of Conner's treatment regardless of what he has IS covered by the NHS funding, only if there is treatment needed in another country that we don't provide here in the UK will we need to raise more funds 😉

Conner is still in the hospital following his last lot of treatment but they are hoping to transfer him back to our local hospital sometime soon god willing, he is scheduled to be back down in Birmingham though in 29 days time to start his Radiotherapy treatment which will last for 6 weeks 🙁
