Bahaha this gave me a great laugh. Finally some team members (and former team members) got some common sense and put it together and stood up to some people idiots.
Here's the play by play:

As well as
If we fast forward to today, it’s become a massive mess. A mess so large that the project is in jeopardy. Nevermind the fact that the project has pretty much stagnated. SMF 2 has been in development since December 2005 – OVER FOUR YEARS! Development in open source projects like this should not be taking four years to come up with a new version. YaBB SE has forked in a few months and SMFs first version didn’t take over two years.

Well, as it looks ike the SMF building is on fire, ima GTFO. Now I just need a new, not so crappy software...

GET MYBB... jk.

But seriously, this is fairly crap. I never was a huge SMF fan but at the same time I had a lot of respect for it as a project. Heh, if this goes down the tube they should just release it under the GPL and let others fork it.

Hmm, I'm thinking of geting IPB for my new project...

The announcement was so vague that the only thing I got out of it was confusion. And fortunately I'm not alone - read the replies of the many other people on that thread who thought the same.

I agree. Most of this problem is the bureaucracy on SMF's part.

I would go to MyBB, except the layout isn't easy to change, 80%+ of the themes just change the colors.

The SMF announcement? If so, I completely agree.

You might want to get IPB for DisturbedMB. It's one of the better forums I see lying around here these days... I'd say it's a worthwhile investment.

It definitely is a worthwhile investment. One of my friends was one of the people who signed that. Quite a shame Amacythe wants to do that. She paid for a trip for every staff member to Arizona one time (or something like that).

Maybe I am overlooking something, but where does it say smf will die if x thing don't happen o.o?

Meeting of the Minds?

NBK, it doesn't say that, but if 80% of the team quits, the software will probably die.

SMF better change.... SMF currently isn't a good forum software.

I don't see how. I mean they can hire people. Or some more will offer to help. Oh well though.

Dillion if you ask me smf is the best free forum software to date.

And you base this statement on?
My opinion ... Ofcourse if you really want some back it, it sure has alot more mods then mybb. It is more secure then both phpbb and mybb. Oh and their community is alot more active... imo

This is smf 2.0 I am talking about btw.

There are tons of mods if you actually look, i.e. in the mod database, MyBB Source, et cetera.

Maybe so,but I still feel that smf has way more mods. Or at the least way more free mods.

Infact that is a problem I have with mybb. Some features that almost every other forum software has by default is not only a mod in mybb, but a paid one!!

For example the html mod ... There are free ones finally being worked on after I think a year, but still mybb should have it by default...

Another one that gets me quite upset is The myawards plugin...

I do not know of any other forum software that has one that you have to pay for...

The worst part of it is the my awards plugins doesn't have near all of the features of lets say the ipb one.

The HTML mod? It's a default option. You can press a box in the ACP and that allows everyone to post in HTML.

Yeah everyone to post html... Big security risk.

Look at lets say smf. You can set permissions for posting html...

MYbb you have to have a paid plugin for that. Or if you just want admin allowed to do that there is a free plugin at mybb source. This still does not make sense as I stated eariler all other forum software has this by freaking default.

However, it's coming in 2.0, and MyBB doesn't look like crap, like SMF does.

So I have to wait two versions for this feature wow..

And yes MYBB looks like crap by default just like any other forum software.(well IPB looks good by default)

No, I meant 1.6. I was thinking of SMF's latest version. I'm not talking just by default. Name 5 decent looking SMF themes.

Okay, but it is all my opinion on what looks good.As some wise man said, what looks good to you might look crap to others.
