The SMF Situation

I fell sorry for SMF going through all this. I've never used the software myself, but it's obvious that a huge amount of work has gone into it's development. It's sad to see it coming under this severe pressure and that so much "dirty laundry" is being washed in public.

It appears that a lot has been said on the forums, that should have been said in private. Like personal relationships, business relationships will experience difficulties from time to time. Communication is the key to getting through the difficult times.

Once politics is allowed to step into a situation then all hell can break loose.

SMF is easy to use IMO.

I once had a look at phpbb and have never visited their forum since.

I think SMF is terrible, I've been on a few forums that use it and it just looks awful, there are no good styles for it, the best software out there for forums is either phpBB (the best I think) or MyBB (not used personally but been on a few forums and other people says it pretty good).

SMF, vB, IPB etc etc.... just look awful, my opinion but they just do and if SMF goes down, well I'm not sure many people would mind to be honest. The forums just don't look as good as other softwares.

Do you mean IPB 3.x.x? I think it looks acceptable, though IPB 1.3 looks HORRIBLE.

I don't like SMF, but people can use it if they want, in my opinion. I don't want it to go down at all.

I'm not sure what versions I have seen of IPB but they all don't look very nice in my opinion.

3.x.x is usually a bit too flashy and 1.3 is usually a bit too simple.

Dude, you don't need to go for that Web 2.0 theme. IPB 3.x.x has a hell of a lot more functionality than anything MyBB or phpBB3 has. I've tried and tested IPB 3.x.x several times and I fully intend to buy it when I get the money. Once you get rid of that crappy Web 2.0 theme, you have a decent, featureful, boardscript.

I really hope SMF doesnt go down. It is one of the best I have used. Most of the skins arent great I admit but there are some that are nice. I use Black Rain, which my co admin changed abit to make a Blue version.

My co-admin was saying last night about an SMF 3. Hopefully that will happen.
