There seems to be space for new social networks with a niche market. If you have a unique angle i think it would be great. Good luck.

@Alpha I think I can join your company and give it A try If I get FTP Access So I can Devolop New Feature

When even Google + haven't succeeded over Facebook, i don't think there is much room for a social network.

Unlike a Forum, you will need lot of money to run it. You need to spend money on custom script which is unique and good enough to beat already existing Social Networks. You will need a LOT of money on advertisement.
unlike Forum, people won't just join a social network, if you showcase it in Forum.

You will need to buy adspots in various general sites.

I just watch the movie The social network The founder (Mark Zuckerberg) had Univisity Friends help Devolop the script As for the server I can start it on mycpanel.co.uk

And I can ask my friends to join then it goes by Word Of Month

Google + is still in beta mode

Well, Mark started Facebook when there is no big competitor.
Its a new idea then and people joined.
I don't think the same thing would happen today.

Before you even think of making one, you need to have a hell of a lot better php knowledge

^This. And echo is the most basic thing in PHP. You will need to be good at PHP, HTML, CSS, Jquery, inorder to develop a functional Social Network.

I am currently in YR10 So I might look up PHP on Google
And Go though University To gain better knowledge in PHP
But you need to learn the basics before learning the Advanced

I'm sorry but Google Plus hasn't even been fully released it's still in testing phases so only a small group of people, while still large, are using it so you can't say whether or not it will or will not succeed.

And good luck with the social network  :great:

I agree at the moment google is still in Beta & Devoloment of Creating there social network
And I watched a show called *60 Minutes* they said Google is used more then facebook becuase of the easy to use search engine

But we will see what happends like Daniel said

And Thanks I Hope it will become sucessfull when its ready 😀 (The goal is to get atleast 50,00 members)<br /><br />-- 26 Aug 2011, 10:49 --<br /><br />And Im not sure should I Buy A VPS Yet? it may or may not take off?

And you need to learn the super advanced in order to compete, in a niche that Google and Facebook are topping at.

I'm helping you out here, you'll waste a lot of money, give up and cry.
Take my 2 cents and just don't open.

Invest your time and money in your current project. Don't tell me you can do both because 1 diamond is better than 2 silver.

Unique idea, okay lets say you have an idea that beats any social network out there... get the word out.
By mouth? How is it ever going to get famous? You need hundreds (to start with) and thousands (to continue with) of money to get it out there.

If you got inspired by the social network... i think Mark used lots of his friend's money... isn't that right?
Do you have a millionaire friend?

A VPS.. for real? You have that amount of cash or you think you can make 200% revenue in the first month to keep it going?

I would try it after trying a few other small projects not just taking a whack at a stick across the stream. Try get way more knowledge, look at scripts and see how they function etc.

Unless you're wonder-woman (or man) you would probably need more than just your self.

Your year 10 (most people are about 14 here in year ten) you should live your life and try pass school and do something out of school. You don't want to blow your exams (if you do them where you live 😛 ).

You're also going to know how to spend money right, have good webmaster skills and you will probably need lawyers if it gets big, you could be sued at any moment and you sound a bit to young to afford one and you will need one to go over the ToS etc because they have to be professional and not easy for someone to get around and sue you for doing something wrong.

By the sounds of things this is a lot for someone in YR 10.

The host he is talking about gives away free hosting.

I done some reasech on Google about Mark Zuckerberg at my age he was Making softwares and Video Games and letting his friends use and test them

So I might be able to start small but I don’t want anyone stealing my idea that’s in place (The world is big and anything can happened)

So which language(s) you know?
Can you show an example of your coding skill? For one year old, you should have an impressive knowledge. Let's see what you got.
