Tipping?

How much do you guys usually tip your waiters or hairdressers? 😱

Usually $5 is my tip. I'm kinda cheap. :lol:

$1 - 5 dollars at the most. I think the most I have ever tipped is $20.00 dollars at Olive Garden.

I tip $2-3 depending on the total and amount of service. If I feel like the person stood out, even if they are having a bad day or something I give up to $10.

I work part time as a delivery driver so I know how annoying it is to not get a tip, and how nice it is to get a good tip, so I tip pretty generously (usually $5-7 for delivery or 15% at a restaurant, more/less depending on service). And something that some people don't realize as well is that in the US/Canada tipped workers usually get paid less than minimum wage and rely on the tips.

Average tip in my area for pizza delivery is around $3-5, if anyone was wondering. 🙂

It depends on the bill... if the service was ok I tip 10-15% however if I find that they really go out of their way I will tip 20%.

It really depends. If I get crappy service, I might not even tip (or I might give a dollar or something like that). However, if I get good service (pizza delivered on time, waiter gave refills occasionally, ect) I'll tip $5-10 or even more. As Hissae said above; most tipped workers get paid under minimum wage, and they need the tips to at least get close to breaking even on their time.

If I order fast food to be delivered, I'll tip the delivery guy/gal roughly £1-2, not much, but hey, it's a tip no less. If i'm eating in a restaurant and I get good service I'll tip 10% of the bill. 😛

Yes. $14 something per hour is the minimum wage for anyone. Anything under that is illegal.

I know a woman who cuts hair professionally, she gets some pretty good tips. That's her main source of income.

One of her tips paid for our Chinese food the other day. 😛

Generally speaking, I will tip anywhere from $2-$10 for most things.

And actually speaking regarding the tipping laws in the U.S. that a number of the people above probably didn't know, is that if the person receiving tips, do not break even on getting atleast minimum wage through tips overall, the business is required by law to pay the wage gap to make up for not getting enough through tips.

This is true, but in Ontario a lot of restaurants will hire delivery drivers as independent contractors, so then they don't have to do this because they are technically not working for the restaurant. Not sure if this also happens in the US.
