Twitter

I find them useless, as basically forums request their members to join so you don't gain anything, but that is my opinion. The only way to hit up new members is by letting other members forum putting a link on their site. So by asking some big sites on Twitter to put there link somewhere about the the social network, my way of gaining membes via Twitter.

Twitter's just fun. 😛 Nothing really going to my forum yet from it, but I do post updates and if anyone follows me I follow them back.

I think Twitter is fantastic for any updates, announcements or down time notifications. If your forum goes down and they know of your Twitter account or are following you, then they will get the reason why the board is offline.

Digital Point used this very effectively recently. They brought their site down for an upgrade and kept their members up to date on their progress, via their Twitter account.

No sooner did I sign up on Twitter and posted my first tweet with my link to my website, I got 9 guests looking at the board. Not sure if they were from Twitter, but I find that an interesting coincidence, lol.

They'd likely be bots.

But hey, a view is view. 🙂

It's free, so I'm giving it a try 😛

If Google can pick up some of the twitter links that makes it worth it I think. Not sure if it does though.

Well, first you need a good sense of imagination to get followers. Or you can do FP Cash Exchanges. Then you can advertise.

Links on Twitter are no-follow. Google does pick them up, but they don't help your search engine listings.

Yeah but so are youtube and they still do get picked up, you can still get human traffic through them. So I think they're worth it if they bring in even a few members, on our forum we have a small memberbase proportionate to how many posts we create. Just like 5 or 10 really active members can tip things way higher.

also, I think google would find it suspicious if a site ONLY had dofollow links linking back to it. It'd look unnatural and you always want to stay away from that.
