I am ready to buy a domain for one of my sites to use as a URL shortener; are they difficult to make? I don't want it to be public either, just for my own use.

They are way to easy to make by yourself.
Most anyone one that knows PHP and SQL can easily make one in a half hour .

I'm currently making one with features like API, multiple URL shortened, advertisement feature like adf.ly and an Android app with it. It would take a couple more weeks to complete though.

Yourls is a good free script.

I am not knowledgeable of that, I'd probably hire someone to do it. Is it easy to make custom URLs too?

You could always buy one of the hundreds on codecanyon. Usually a reliable source for scripts like this 😉

You could always buy one like Darthmaul said. 😉
Ya it's easy to do custom URLs also.
I made one a while back took me less then three hours and 90% of the work was design.

Ah okay 🙂 I'll find myself a suitable domain and look into it, thanks for your help 🙂

Well in my personal opinion, if you don't know how to make one, then yes it is difficult.

You'd probably be better using a script and changing the design to your own.

But generally, no, they're quite easy to make, provided you know how.

That is what I'll do 🙂

Look up 'php academy' on YouTube he has A tutorial on this.

If it won't be public, why don't you just use one of the already established services such as bit.ly?

Trying to make one yourself sounds like something I'd do, but in reality it would be much easier and cheaper to use an existing one.

I want it to be a domain that people will recognise and associate with my website; when you see goo.gl you instantly think of Google. I'd rather keep it in a 'house style' if you like and go with a domain that would represent LevelUnlocked.net.

Thanks Flux, that sounds good. Hopefully you will have it up and running soon.

It does sound good 🙂

I would help but I'm on my 3DS and won't get my tablet in for repairs till around May.

See what I can do.
