vBulletin Security Flaw Makes BBC News

vBulletin definitely isn't crap, Internet Brands is just learning. Hopefully they'll get the hang of it or I'll consider moving to IPB.

*link removed*

Wow. This points out someone who explains how to use the flaw, so now all the script kiddies are going to hack vB Sites.

I removed the link, as it's against forum rules to post anything about hacking, or in this case, finding a flaw.

Please Kino... outline where in the rules it states hacking is not allowed... please find it as I'm having problems locating it... If you can't find it either I'd greatly like you re incorperate the link and stop stating it's against the rules.

Thanks. 😀

Hacking is illegal, is it not?

Please use common sense when posting. The FP staff have the ability and the permission to edit/delete/lock any thread/post that we feel is not suitable and/or illegal.

Hacking in or of itself is not a criminal offense, THT. What if you wanted to test the exploitation on your own board? Just like graffiti is not illegal if you paint it on your own wall.

Do you have proof that everyone who looks at that link will just use it on their own forum?

Kino deemed the link unsuitable for this topic so he removed it, easy as that. Our rules state that they may "edit/delete/lock any thread/post that we feel is not suitable and/or illegal."

No it's not... hacking is 100% legal... hacking is development and needed to survive in this world... we built this world you live in and you think were illegal... the only offence of hacking into another persons computer is breaking and entering, theft, invasion of privacy and copyright...

Can you site your source for the 100% legal? I'd like to know where you got that from :great:

By the way, I only posted a news article from a well-known UK site that outlined how to do it. It was one of the stupidest things, but oh well. I've spoken to Kino about it via. PM.

Also, I found out the page from @KierDarby on twitter (Kier Darby's Twitter) as well. He said,

Ouch. The Register has published how to expose the vBulletin 3.8.6 flaw so now it's everywhere. How exactly was that in the public interest?

okay let's take this into detail here... my only supplied source to reply to this is common sence...

the *true* deffinition of the work hacking/hack is altering, changing or modding a thing to do other or different functions than it was planned to do...

So by saying this... have you ever:
hacked your PSP?
sat on the chair a different way than attended?
done something funny with your body?
bent a nail?
Broke something?
jail broken your ipod/iphone?
spoke?
walked?
listened to music?
used a computer?
clicked your fingers?

if what your saying is true that hacking is illegal, well then boy, you've broken the law as all of the things above wern't given the spcsific use for what you do/use to do them...

Also when a hacker is caught, say the person that has hacked the pentagon... he wasn't charged with hacking... he was charged with computer misuse, computer misuse with intent, treason, fraud and identity theft... there is no *law* of "hacking"

Good day sir.

Ok, well what about the fact that staff can remove edit or lock posts they feel are unsuitable?

I spoke with kino about it... he did it 'cause he thought it was rules... he didn't want to.

Well staff can view it as unsuitable so technically it was against the rules.. sorta, just got the rule that it was wrong 😛

Now can we all enjoy a friday night? It is fighting about a link being removed 😛

He didn't see it as unsuitable... he saw it as his job and had to do it, different things. 😉
It's saturday and 3:07am >.> also I wanted the link there... I wanted to check to see if it's one of the 16 I know... too lazy to go look also... >.>

I thought the topic is about vb's faulty update. 😕

It was. I was just accused of showing people how to hack the forums when I was basically innocent.
