vBulletin What's Going On?

I see your point but feature wise they cant be compared... its like comparing a kitten with a tiger of who would win in a fight, but at the end they both are cats right? Same way with vbulletin and phpbb.

Yes they can, sure the kitten may not win the fight but it doesn't mean the kitten can't be compared to the tiger.

Ive lost all confidence in vB and I could not be happier now that Ive switched to their competitor. :cheer:

Any forum software is hackable. IPB isn't hack free. If your forum is hacked, it's because someone doesn't like you or your content, not because your software is vulnerable.

Yeah, but IPB has always acknowledged its flaws and has had every bug fixed within days, if not the next release.

IB still hasn't even said why it went down or even recognize it was.

True, im curious to why too they havent made an announcemnet about it. Probably they did get hacked and thats why they arent saying anything about it because they will loose customers.

vbulletin is up, only for the 30mins vbulletin was down at my end

The vbulletin.com site was down for about three hours yesterday morning. It was also showing an error message when I visited it earlier this morning. But still no announcements from VB, very strange.

Why should they say anything until they know what happened? If people know the site was down, why announce it? We already know it was. Let them figure it out and announce it when they know what went wrong and fix it.

vBulletin fixes all their flaws very quickly as well. The problem is, people spend 24 hours a day trying to hack the software. There are infinite ways to hack any forum software.

They could at least acknowledge that they're looking at why the site went down for a while and they'll make an announcement saying why when they fixed their problems.

And no, vBulletin 4 has had a very bad record compared to the previous regime from Kier Darby. They clearly rushed the release, and the showstopper bugs were the main reasons why people initially didn't use it and resisted it. Their subsequent updates for a while left some of these bugs unfixed. It's just stuff like this that really displeases their customers. It's also kind of why if I had to get a paid forum software, I would rather get IPB (which, by the way, I have had for almost three years now) or XenForo over vBulletin.

That's common sense. You know when it was fixed, why it was fixed and that they are working on it.

We take software updates very seriously on my forum. Any trouble we had at all was when PHPBB 3.0.7 came out, before the PL-1. Because we didn't know they were coming out with an emergency release, as we had already installed 3.0.7 regular version. But with any release of PHPBB, we like to wait until a nice stable version of the software comes out before we try installing anything. Yes, we do make regular backups but at the same time, it's always better to be safe than sorry, and this goes with any forum software you happen to be running.

They must have made changes to their MySQL Database or Website links
thats why

The worst thing you can do is pretend it didn't happen? People will imagine all sorts of things if kept in the dark. Always be open and honest. Honesty inspires confidence. Nobody feels confident about someone who feels the need to hide things.

Well said bro 🙂

In terms of VB (or any paid software), they should acknowledge there had been an issue and provide details on it. All sites have issues and unexpected issues and just a simple topic saying we had a few issues and it was not related to the software etc then it would settle alot of the members and reassure them. If people spend money and the site has problems, the customer is going to be worried.

No one would have thought any less of vb if they held their hands up and went "There was a problem" or "We messed up and the site was down for a bit". Some people would say that actually holding their hands up and admitting to mistakes/errors is a step forward for them.

...and now something is happening at Invision Power.
When going there, I get this, and so do friends:
Code:
Warning: require(/home/invision/public_html/admin/sources/.php) [function.require]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/invision/public_html/index.php on line 607
