vBulliten. Is it worth it?

Oh, well I they are both the same aren't they? They probably are a bit different but in the end the free should be the same as the paid. Having one or the other would probably not make too much a difference in whether or not your forum does well. I know having vB will show that you are serous about your site, but in the end you can still make a popular site.

In regards to the lack of IPBfree skins: I'm not sure about IF skins being the same as IPB ones, and I've looked far and wide and not seen more than like 50ish skins total at most.

No, IBFree is nowhere near to IP.Board paid.

IPfree runs an ANCIENT 1.3 version of the IP.Board software. IP.Board paid is up to 3.0 now. Everything has changed since then.

InvisionFree uses a different skin system than IPB 1.3 or any other IPB version. They had to edit that because remotely-hosted forums share files (on a server), and often, the database as well.

Wow, It seems that my zetaboards forum has done better than my IPBfree one so far. It could just be that I haven't put in the effort, or that I'm not advertising it very much. I'll keep an vBulliten in mind, but I don't think I will go for it.

So myBB uses vBulliten? That doesn't make any sense, but I think the forum looks a bit more better than at Zetaboards. but IPB does have some very nice features that can help protect from spam attacks and hackings. You need to download vB right? So, to me, that must be hard to mess up, and pretty safe to use.

I've heard that vB is a great software since it's customizability is amazing, but I've also heard it's not a great in terms of size and reliability. In my opinion, go with something like IPB if you have money, or MyBB if you don't.

If you want vBulletin, then I suggest the latest version of the vB3 series. vB4 absolutely fails in every way now.

For free software, I suggest phpBB and MyBB.

IP.Board imo is horrible and some members reported getting horrible support from them.

If you target the right niche, get a good domain name and a good reputable hosting company, you will probably be quite active.

vBulletin and IPB are commercial software, both are paid options. MyBB is a free alternative, provided you have your own host.

Clearly you have never experienced IPB's support (or for that matter, even tried IP.Board from an admin's perspective), then. Besides, you can't get a new vBulletin 3 license. Ticket support is now only 30 days for forum option, and the full publishing suite is just utter bloat crap.

Wrong. You can buy the vB4 license and still use older versions of vBulletin 3. Justify the statement with evidence.

I don't like IP.Board because I've heard in the past of people not getting money back for issues.

Well I don't know what people you are talking about. It's like you said above, justify your statements with evidence. I have used IPB support for over two years now and they are absolute saints. Your ticket is answered in less than 30 mins, and they have a phone service open until like 10 PM.. their support is amazing. VB is the one with the shitty support.

And if there is any evidence behind your statement, I'd say it's from people who complain because they don't get their money back for issues that sound like " I paid for IPB board license and I got sick of it after 2 months so please give me a full refund "or " My site is loading slow please give me 20 dollars to make up for the downtime" type of stuff.

Still, that price hike makes it not worth it at all. But I learned something then if that's the case.
