Actually a phpBB mod would be an excellent example:
So a phpBB mod is just released under dev, then there's some progress on it and they release it to BETA 1 for example, then a new progression takes place and they upgrade it to BETA 2.
It doesn't mean they've updated the forum software or anything, it's just numbers in place for new stuff 😉.
