Vps over Shared hosting

What do you guys think about vps hosting over Shared Web hosting?

Pros:
* More resources
* Many KVM hosts have CPUs dedicated to you (do your research as some oversell) meaning you can take full advantage of the resources.
* Total control over software and configuration with more choices

Cons:
* Unless it’s managed by the host for you you need to know how to use a command line. It’s easy to learn but it’s a lot of extra work for people new to Linux Servers
* You’re responsible for security. If the server gets hacked you could get in trouble with the host. You’ll have to do some extra configuration steps to avoid this.

Start with shared hosting and then move to a good vps when your forum/website has grown and needs more server resources. Try and find a good managed vpn if you're not that experienced with running servers and playing around with command lines.

And able to afford the new upgraded server LOL

VPS is a lot better than shared for obvious reasons. I used one for a bit. But fully dedicated is just the absolute best!

Just yes. It normally is the same cost if not cheaper, and you really can just install a super lightweight control panel to help you out with specific tasks and get everything installed if you are unsure how to do so on your own.

With shared hosting, you can "share" the space on the server with other websites. · VPS hosting is where you have more than one server

Shared hosting is the most affordable way to get your website online. However, whilst it’s cheaper than VPS, dedicated server and cloud hosting, that doesn’t mean you should accept bargain basement resources and features. Unfortunately, many people don’t fully understand what to look for when choosing a shared hosting package and can end up with very poor service. To help, we’ve put forward this straightforward guide to help you out.

1. Hosting Operating System: Linux or Windows
2. How many websites do you intend to have?
3. How much storage space do you need?
4. Always choose unmetered bandwidth
5. Go for great performance
6. Look for a user-friendly admin panel
7. Security features
8. A host that stays online
9. Additional features

I've used nothing but shared hosting when I did self host forums. My current site is on a VPS via VPS Dime. I had someone help me set it all up, though.

How busy is your site and how much do you pay monthly? Just curios.

This is also should be discussed before final order:
What payment plans are available? For example, if you sign up for a two-year subscription term, do you need to pay that full amount upfront or is it divided into increments?

It isn't very busy honestly. I think I pay around $11-12 a month, but opted for a yearly plan. I will switch back to monthly next year.
Cool. Not bad. My first really successful site/forum was on shared. I paid every three months @ like $10 a month.

What do you guys think about vps hosting over Shared Web hosting?

Hosting your site on a shared server implies that the server and its resources are shared with other websites. That includes the storage space as well as the bandwidth. VPS hosting generates a virtual environment that simulates a dedicated server (in which you have an entire server and all of its resources to yourself), but it does so within the context of shared web hosting.

Still have had no issues with shared hosting at all using it for forums or blogs.

I only use dedicated now-a-days. A forum, a networking site, and a custom coded site. I enjoy having full control over the entire system, and not sharing any resources.

Oh, that's neat. I have a VPS currently for my site and as I said before it's not too bad a month but paid for it for 1 year a while back.

VPS is pretty much better in nearly every way as others have pointed out, but I would still recommend starting on a shared plan.

I have small sites, therefore, do not have any issues with shared hosting. have been running sites since 2015 and have never thought to upgrade my hosting from shared hosting.
