I dislike the snarky comments, the flaming, the condescension, the hate, etc... I mean, in my town people can't even ask how the roads are in bad weather because the trolls come out to ruin the threads.
Social media just drains time out of my day in the disorganized fashion that it normally is. I'm mostly willing to put up with YouTube and Discord besides Forums but I'm not invested in them social-wise.
I have deactivated my Facebook account because I do not want to witness the toxicity of people anymore. My feed has become toxic and negative to the point that it has affected my mental health.
There is very little good comes from social media, the amount of rumours and speculation that comes from it is crazy and can ultimately be harmful. Take the Kate Middleton speculations, that's a good example of social media rumour frenzy.
The echo chambers and the attitudes people have. People can be so aggressive on social media for absolutely no reason, and a civilized conversation can quickly become derailed and turn into an argument over something as simple as a difference in opinions. I mostly sit back and read it all and don't get involved, but it's absolutely absurd how people act online.
I also find it funny how politics somehow ends up being involved in just about anything on social media. Local news post about something not even remotely political? Better bring up something political! I think I've only really noticed that the most in recent years though, but it's still interesting.
I don't mind social media but the one thing that puts me off social media would have to be how people tend to portray a perfect life on social media.
I found over the time I was on places like Facebook, I found that the more I saw my friends posting how great their lives were and how perfect it was with no faults, the more it got to me mentally. I later found out others felt that way too.
I use social media a lot less now and have felt better.
I hate how toxic it is. I just recently stopped logging into Facebook about two weeks ago, the only time I logged back in was to post on a page to promote a forum I just reopened. I need to stop logging into Twitter, that's way more toxic than Facebook.
The fact that everyone becomes age mates? You’ll be surprised at how users can become disrespectful and use derogatory language, which certainly would not happen if it were a physical interaction.
Apart from the toxic behaviour, there's the fact that it feels like a soulless no-man's land. By contrast, when someone's spent ages customising their forum, it has a real charm to it (even I'd they haven't done a very good job!)
I don’t love that so many people look at likes/comments/followers/subscribers as validation. I mean, it’s cool that you have a following, but is it worth whatever it is that you’re doing?
Lack of freedom of speech is bad. Of course, though, Elon Musk granted it somewhat on X, but then it's overrun with racists. Anyhow, though, that's the price of freedom. If you don't like it, you don't have to follow the person.
