When one member doesn't like your rules?

I am open for a genuine talk in the community regarding the rules if there is something concerning. Specially when you have a community that has been going for decades, it is likely you might be enforcing stuff that is not longer relevant thanks to improvements to the forum software.

That being said, when you get the one member who is pretty much a pot stirrer and is trying to get the staff attention by complaining often and everywhere, well, that is a different matter.

In the end, I am happy to explain my reasoning but for the most part, unless I can clearly see and agree that the rule is in need to be tweaked, I will stand my ground with it. I don't care if their experience differs with mine, at the end of the day if we're talking about my community I have to be able to be absolutely comfortable with the rules we have in place and that means I will be doing things my way even if other members, including staff, don't agree one hundred percent. Of course, if staff is seriously bothered by them I'd be bothered with them remaining as staff - I want people that can back them up.

If it is just a single person, I try to engage him or her in a conversation. If that doesn't work, and he or she still complains about the rules, then I would put him under moderation and his posts won't be visible.
