Which XenForo 2 Theme/Themes do you all prefer?

A problem with XenForo is if you have many domains, you can upgrade software on all of them, even if you have only one upgrade. However, I think that's against their rules - but unenforceable unless someone rats on you.

They have ways of finding out. That's why the token is there.

XenForo has been a turd for years. It's had a small subset of functionality in contrast to the other players and only rose up because of the publicity from the lawsuit, which in the end, they made a mountain of money off the users jumping on them anyway.

False. Most of their fanbase was derived from the core vB3 fanbase, it was IB's fault for not listening to Kier/Mike/Ashley when it regards a rewrite of vB4. Nooo, Bob Brisco wanted to outsource vBulletin development to another country, which was stupid considering that vBulletin originated from U.K. *Rolleyes* Why go somewhere else, when you already had or have developers outside of United States. It made zero sense.

And every plugin costs like $40. Every theme costs like $50. And it's mocked by countless people for generally being underpowered while presenting a nice big mountains of costs.

Yes, but it's cheaper than everythng else on the market. You really want to spend $200 on renewals every year? Because that's what IPS wants you to do!

I played nice by not poking right into the fundamental issues, but you just had to poke the beehive.

Thing is MyBB is stupid even for a free forum.

My favorite free forum software was iKonBoard, so no... I'm not a fanboy.

They need to fix that problem via the software because, as I was saying, it's not enforceable - and people are immoral about pirated stuff these days - I think.

You can probably fingerprint copies to figure out which user leaked a nulled copy, but it goes back to the old debate about piracy, the one where piracy can be free publicity, especially if someone wouldn't have any intention of buying it otherwise.

Plus, if you've already bought it, then what's the chances of you suddenly deciding to short change them for a far smaller amount of money. And you can't go too far with software, otherwise you wind up like Brivium.

One problem with XenForo I should mention, and is why the Brivium issue is amusing with how people are mad about him pirating the thing (I know he did far worse things too) is that developers are making the XenForo Platform more attractive for admins by developing plugins for it, and then, XenForo also wants them to pay their tithe via all the license fees, etc.

You can't expect people to behave out of morality. I mean, it goes back to when Metallica sued their own fans.

It is pure idiocy, especially with web development where you actually do need competent developers to deal with security matters, even if you believe that numbers can make up the shortfall (they generally don't, but some people like to believe they do).

And in general, one competent programmer is worth ten programmers. And for a fraction of the costs too, funny how that works?

To be honest, I hate pirated stuff. I see it as stealing, but some people out there believe once you own something, you literally own all of it! But that's for another thread, probably in the Debate Section.

With the whole nulled thing, if broke people in Vietnam want to download a pirated copy, who really cares. Same for people in India with like no money where every bit of cash makes people jump in excitement.

I find it hard to believe that they'll suddenly produce $300 for everything they might need, plus XF's developers are extremely wealthy.

It boggles my mind. It's boils it. The thing is this, Bob wanted to really ease development costs by employing developers elsewhere, when in reality - U.K. is well known for coding some of the best forum software in the planet, and they'll do it on the dollar amount that IB is/was seeking. vBulletin would never have succeeded if it was developed elsewhere

It's just like ripping films off VHS/CD's/DVD's or today's Blu-Ray. It doesn't matter if a company is rich or not, you're stealing from the company. This is the exact reason why software sales for some consoles went to the toilet (Dreamcast for example).

Yes, and no. Yes, people want to try things before they buy it, but no... 90% of pirating they don't intend to buy it, and never will which results in losses.

If someone's living in a hut and is dead broke, then well, who really cares. They wouldn't have paid for it anyway. It's the main reason that Adobe tends to look the other way on all those people who pirate Photoshop, they want people to get used to using it, so that when they're in a better position, they'll pay them their tithe.

Photoshop is probably the most pirated thing on the face of the planet and Adobe has yet to go bankrupt.

Companies need to make money somehow, somewhere, and pirating isn't going to help economically for any company. The longer you let it happen, the more losses you incur. The more you allow it, the more people find it acceptable, which in turn means that the company will make major losses and shut down. Dreamcast was SEGA's last console because of this. It was the very last nail in the coffin after the Windows hack(s). PS2 can sustain this, because Sony was a juggernaut at the time with PS2.

[PS2] Software sales were skyrocketing, overshadowing the small hacking community, the mod community, and the ripped games. Bootlegs, however you want to call 'em.

I think in a lot of cases of piracy, it's a bit of a... Don't be obvious about it and we'll look the other way. Plus, it's work to chase every site down.

If you're prancing around and making people doubt the utility of buying a license, then well, that's not going to make anyone happy. And yes, they do need to make money somehow.
I would say that you should always buy a license, but it honestly wouldn't surprise or horrify me, if people didn't.

That's why, as soon as they unveiled the XF2 "upgrade" paths, I stopped being a customer.

They wanted you to buy a "new license" for your previously purchased skins. That means, every skin I ever bought from them is useless. Sad, because they are good developers.

I'm considering doing custom work with PixelExit now for CODForums, when I originally wanted to do business with Audentio. Sad. 🙁

Yeah, I like Pad and am using it for Fun Biz Forum and SWC.

I'm a big fan of Ehren's themes from XenFocus. I love Carbon and i'm looking at a few others to purchase in the future. 🙂

I like Nerva from XenMake (Is that XenFocus?). It has those moving line things like you see on the Milk ones from phpBB.
