I don't see the problem if they can offer something unique over the other ones. But I agree, people that copy others, irritating.

As someone that did copy FP for the most part and is willing to admit it, I agree with most of what was said here. I used to be a perfect example of one of those people. I tried and tried to create my own version of a promotion forum because I enjoyed FP so much. I closed down tons of forums that were related to promotion, and finally had to take a step back and realize the error of my ways. If I do ever make another forum, it will be about a topic that I enjoy like sports or gaming, but not promotion.

The way I look at it, every promotion forum that is made is a tribute to FP. They are basically saying that they want a piece of the success that FP has tasted. What I, and others, did not realize was that it took FP several years to get to where they are today. It also took an extremely dedicated set of admins.

Promotion forums will always be around, and they should be taken with a grain of salt. If you have a forum, you should not really promote on only promotion forums anyways. Go out and find people that are interested in your topic through social media, real life, SEO, and blogs. You are much more likely to have success through the other promotion opportunities than a promotion forum.

Cant stand new promotion forums. Every person who makes one always says theirs will be unique, it always ends up a rip off of FP. I know of one or two exceptions to this and thats it 🙂

I actually do not even care that people set up millions of promotion forums, people only really learn from mistakes when they experience them first hand.

You never know, a new forum that you hate on for being a promotion forum may become larger than FP.

I'm not tired of them. There more places to advertise, the better. I like new promotion forums because they haven't been taken over by "pros" who use paid hosting and have a TLD and yell at you for using forumotion, or tell you what forums you should or should not make.

More places doesn't mean better results. It's not how many places you go to but how many people you reach. Posting the same ads to the same group of people on multiple forums doesn't make your advertising any better.

The only thing those "pros" spit out around here is opinions and if you ask enough people any question will lead you to any and every answer you want to believe is right. I wouldn't take anyone's opinion as a fact till you can see the proof behind the opinion first.

Only if they have money to invest, then sure. Other than that, none of the new promotion forums stand a chance against this place. 😛

I've seen plenty of these come and go. I just don't car eanymore. The main one I use is ForumPromotion....the rest pretty much just copycat off this place in one form or another. 🙂

-- 21 Jan 2012, 20:47 --

I've seen plenty of these come and go. Mainly because they are always the same as FP. All the members come from here too, so you're kinda cancelling out the point in having a site.

I'm making a promotion site, but it's a bit different. Hoping it goes BIG 😀

There are various opinions on this topic, some factualized others simply opinion. First, FP was not the first to set up shop in this genre. I enjoy FP and use it a great deal but it's not the trend setter and fact is, very few promo boards are any different than another because there is only so much that can be done in this genre of board. This said, a straight up copy of another site is simply wrong and I do agree there is a lot of that going on. The board I bought is called phpBB Communities and I was astonished at how similar it was to FP, so much so, I moved and changed things around. No sooner did I make the change three other promo boards opened and look simular to mine, FP and few other big ones. Really? Where is the creativity?

There needs to be more than one promo site out there, when a site like FP grows as it has, then getting your site known will take more effort because of cueing. If you bump your site every 24 hours at FP, within 2 to 5 min its moved down in position. Another smaller promo site may give you an hour or more it all depends on traffic. You need to have several options to keep your exposure up.

The key is for promo sites to be solid in services, content, staff and professionalism. I have visited several promo boards some old other new and the lack and disregard for professionalism is beyond me. The type of comments that are allowed or even support by staff is concerning. Site owners who use services are also to a large degree, unprofessional. Many fast to bash another or are so arrogant it simply keeps me from ever wanting to look at their site. People forget what they post is a direct window to who you are like on your own site.

I do not think promo sites are the only boards that are short lived. Many sites are, why? The owners would be better members and or staff than they are as owners. I know several site owners who code and do graphics, their sites are stagnate, the reason, they are not doing what they love the most and that is showing off their skill, they have to hire others to do it because they are too busy attempting to run a board.

I recently saw a few new graphics sites open from my site, the members got great comments on their work they shared with others, that they thought might as well open a site. Really? Well most of the sites are dying a slow death. What they could have done was pooled their talents and opened one site as a team but instead each went and did their own thing. Funny thing is, owners like this are on other sites more than their own doing what they did prior to opening a site.

What does fascinate me the most, is the outright rudeness, arrogance and simple disregard for professionalism on many of the new promo boards out there. Owners trashing other promo sites in an effort to capture members and stats. The reality is, if you partner up work together even cross sites, you will do far better than getting into the drama business and we all know the type of forum trolls who live for that kind of environment.

For me it's not so much a promo board but it's any site that opens that is not well thought out and executed to a decent plan that bothers me. However, I do not harp on it, it's their life and time to waste.

Good topic thanks for starting it.

I don't mind joining to thier forum though. if they can provide package i'd join.

Some people need to see something over and over again before they consider joining.
Thats why you see commercials on tv over and over again. If someone sees a commercial once, they will probably ignore it, but after a few times, the ad might get stuck in their head and they may go out and buy the advertised product.

That's providing the owner actually puts effort into their advertisement, which rarely ever happens.

I don't hate anyone as long as they have a decent site with a decent service. Competition is always good and, if the 'players' are of great quality, more power to us, the 'end-users' 😉

Because they all copy FP. Same services, same people, less exposure.

Try postloop. It's way different then any other site to promote forums. You get "points" from forums that you can subscribe to and the more points you have the higher your forum ranks on the list.

well, they got the same services and everything. They're copycats and theyr style isn't really original. A quick glance at it and it would tell you that the owner didn't put too much into it and set it up quickly so yeah.

My forum has a unique service and two in dev. stage .
Its true that I don't have a logo or banner yet but I am not alone I got some staff members and I have a .info and paid hosting 🙂
