original I got bored and stressed (no need to emplane what about).... and thought I should do something that actually had some productive result so I created a forum =)
I made it to give people an alternative place to go to learn how to code. There is CodeForum out there but they don't have the family of locations like we do. We are on Discord and Reddit. We started on Reddit and then moved to discord 2 years ago and now we have our forum that started this year.
I'm not one to make several forums or buy & sell. I instead focus on one forum & try to keep that one afloat. I made my forum to learn & grow with others & have made some great friends!
I inherited a fairly large active forum many years ago after the original owners walked away from it. There was a huge learning curve involved to keep it running as well as a fair amount of money, more than I could really justify at the time. I decided to put what I learned towards running forums on a more commercial basis and they became my main source of income for a while along with gaming and comms server rentals.
I still run a couple forums commercially but mainly to pay for the forums I run as a hobby.
for many years forums are great places to have a wonderful community thats not flooded like social media and is more of a core group of people with the same interests as myself, its why i love forums and the communities around them, its been like that way before social media and its always been the sites i always go to with forums rather than posting on social media.
forums can be a challenge but at the same time fun to build and be a part of.
I used to make forums. I used to build them from scratch.
but not anymore. I don't have that time anymore.
Instead I help others build their community and forums, blogs etc.
The main reason is that I like the social interaction. Although I am on social media I am far from a teenager or a young person/in their 20's etc, so being an older generation I prefer the more old skool type of communities. I only ever make message boards that I have a genuine passion and interest (In the subject in), so until 2020 I stuck with my Transformers message board only as I was done with making new ones for a very, very long time.
I create my forums as a hobby myself, and even though I do monetize my forums that is not the sole purpose of my running a forum. I like to be able to build up somewhere with a community and give people a place to go to be able to meet new people, share their knowledge and opinions, and just be able to relax as well.
