Windows 10

The dev test was awesome. This is gonna be the next big OS. Its basicaly what you thought windows 8 was gonna be, 7 + cool new design/features.

I'm not sure whether I should get the BETA on my main laptop. Would you recommend having it on a spare computer? 🙂

You could always put it on a virtual machine, that's what I did.

I received a notification on my Windows 8.1 today to sign up for a free upgrade to Windows 10 when it's released. Out of curiosity I just signed up, lol. I saw the previews on the screen and it looks great so far.

This article and this article talk about possible release date and price. It's rumored to be released on August 10th.

What do you guys think? 😀

I just got that too and I signed up. I am not sure when it will be released because rumours aren't always accurate but I think Window 7 was the best! 😀

I'm kind of confused with all the upcoming updates, personally. 😛

Windows 8/8.1 looks pretty with the set up but it seems more useful for tablets than PC. If Windows 10 can get it back to old days, I think I may like it better. But for other features like Contana or Xbox thing, since I don't use any of them I don't know how significant it will be. I only wish that Skype for Windows will work correctly (now using the desktop one because the one for Windows 8 is just...), same goes with other features.

I would like to post my experience with Windows 10. I was able to upgrade to the technical preview. After confirming with someone from Microsoft (before installing it). That you will be able to still move forward to the final release of Windows 10 even after installing the Technical Preview.

I am going to quote my experience which I already posted over on IGN.

------------------------------------------

After my short experience with Windows 10 already with the latest patch. I must say Windows 10 seems already finished to me in my opinion. I downloaded the latest drivers by Nvidia for Windows 10 64-bit and they are very stable. I played some Witcher 3 and actually got 20 FPS more! This is a pretty big jump between Windows 7 to Windows 10. Windows 10 seems a lot better for gaming compared to Windows 7 so if you're a gamer (which thats pretty obvious if you're on IGN) then you should upgrade to Windows 10 for sure!

Only minor issue I have found so far is this OS is a bit heavy on my CPU compared to Windows 7. That is most likely because of all the side programs that may be running when installed alongside Windows 10 that run constantly, but I will report back on this issue once I figure Windows 10 out a bit more. Other than that Windows 10 is very light and response faster than Windows 7.

Lastly if you own a Xbox One (Which I do) the features for Xbox One are pretty fun to use. I am getting used to it already. You can actually message, view achievements, add more friends, etc. As if you're on your Xbox One which is pretty convenient. I have not tried or seen anything related to the announced Xbox Streaming games to PC yet, but I guess they may have not added that yet. May be saving that for the release.

Also love the fact it was able to move everything over and I didn't have to reinstall anything. Except the Nvidia Drivers of course.

------------------------------------------

Something I also like to mention. I never really cared much about flat designs, but the icons for Windows 10 are pretty nice and very smooth on the eyes. Makes the experience of Windows 10 much more enjoyable.

Thank you for the input, Hidden308! Makes me want to try Windows 10 even faster. I like to play games on PC though I don't have Xbox so that sounds like a good incentive, haha.

I visited Microsoft's website a while ago and saw the release date for people like who has reserved a free upgrade as July 29th 2015.

How much heavier on your CPU?

Will VIrtualBOx be on there? I really love it and I want to use it on Windows 10 because it is a trip down memory lane.

The temps of my CPU have increased by about 5c and maybe using about 5% increase in usage. I have a i7-4790k. It may be due to all the background programs that comes with Windows 10. Have yet to figure out how to disable some and such or if it is even possible.

That seems to be quite a bit but not too bad overall. Is it as user friendly as Windows 7?

I would say it is very user friendly. Everything is pretty convenient and easy to access. I love how you can control what to put on the start menu really like that. 🙂 I put Netflix, Amazon and a few other things on my start menu.

Also a few things to mention there is a new control panel, but you can still use the old one by using the search to find it. I have not yet used cortana or needed to at this point though. I may try to give that a try this weekend.

Windows 10 does seem pretty stable even though it isn't finished yet. So I am looking forward to using the finished Windows 10 when it comes out next month on July 29th.

The only downside is some older games don't work for Windows 10 (Fallout 3, etc) which is a given, but I am sure gamers will find a way to get the older games to work just like Windows 7 and 8.1.

Does it still have Windows Explorer, and can you customise your desktop, as you can with Windows 7?

Yes you can still customise your desktop just as easily as Windows 7. Actually I would say there is more customization in Windows 10 than 7. Also yes to the Windows Explorer question.

I also would like to mention and I doubt all know about this. You are sorta required to have a msn account when you go to Windows 10. (@hotmail.com or @live.com email)

When you first setup Windows 10 you obviously make your own password, but once you use some of the Windows 10 main features. (Store, etc) It will asks you to login to your msn account. Once you do that it will change your PC password to the same as your msn account. A bit strange in my opinion, but it isn't a huge deal to me.

So to answer your question more directly the answer would be yes.

I think that sounds similar to Windows 8. When I was going to create an account and password for login, there was an option to use MSN/Hotmail account which is then used for other features of the system.

Since they added a store in Windows 10 it is a must have. So you'll be required to login with your MSN/Hotmail account.
