You will have a hard time obtaining alot of business with no publicity.
If you want an example of bad publicity, just look at NeoGaf. What happened over there hasn't and will never result in anything positive for that community or bring back the hundreds of people who flocked elsewhere in the wake of it. Is getting your name out there with something highly controversial and damaging worth it if no one wants to be associated with it as a result?
I understand your point, using any publicity to get attention to your brand has its risks but I feel its a risk worth taking if you are getting no attention at all.

We were able to break the tie in the battle between "Gaming Latest" and "The Off-Topic Hub" so that's taken care of. The admin have been working on verifying the votes. Once that is finished, I'll begin posting the next round of battles. It shouldn't be long now. 😉

That's a bad example. NeoGAF has its share of good posts. The problem isn't the people there, it's just that some people are really annoying, and really stupid. Controversy is good. ALWAYS good. Without it, you don't get anywhere. People hate me, that's fine with me. Fuck 'em, if that's the case. But if you're on my good side, pleasure to meet you, pleasure to do business, pleasure this and that.
NeoGAF's problem is that the owner thinks that the kind of publicity generated from sexual abuse cases and/or those admin abuse cases, whatever the hell they're about... That's the bad kind of controversy, that's where you and I agree. However, NeoGAF's marketing strategy has always derived from "first news" mantra. I wish I had users like that. Not everyone can get "first news." It's very hard to do it. I tried contacting the Activision PR section as a niche website - nothing worked. Even though they know that it'll help them, rather than not.
The other problem is that NeoGAF, and the "respawn" of NeoGAF (ResetEra) both have the worst moderation system I've ever witnessed. They just don't give a shit, and will warn you over even the smallest thing. Even the smallest arguements will get you banned. Even your opinions will get you banned.
Eventually, both sites will die. It's up to the new king to pick up the pieces. Which I am trying to do.

DiscussPF bows out in the elite 8 round. Just wanted to say thanks for all the votes, its nice seeing a community so young receive so much support and compliments. Hopefully it will still be around for the 2019 contest and we might be able to do a bit better!
