A whopper.

The Forumer converter was a tweaked version of the Invisionfree (or IPBFree don't remember which) converter, so it's possible.

Though ProBoards isn't IPB based, so you may be safe.

yep plus doesn't hurt to try it and it doesn't work you could always run the crawler again 😛

So acorn did you find the correct converter btw i can provide you with a test SMF if you need it 😛

The Proboards one was removed from that thread, ^, which is why I linked to the other thread. 😉

Well, I didn't download it to check because, like, I didn't have to. 😵 😛 But it wasn't listed in the thread for some reason.

...I'm lost, guys.

What is an ACP?

Well my forum isn't even loading right now so I can't really do anything 😛

Oh, ok! lol, I at least already know what that is.

I'm still worried that I have to know how to code to be able to run a SMF forum. I don't know how to code and every effort I've ever made to learn even the basics has failed.

You should be okay running an SMF forum without coding knowledge. I'm sure with a forum as large as yours, though, you could find somebody to help with code if you needed it.

SMF also has a support board I see. I might be able to get some assistance there.

Before I did any moving I'd convert the layout to be as close to what it would look like on the new board, as well as the settings too, to minimise any "trauma" for my members.

The cost seems like it would be my biggest issue but I still don't have any idea what it'd be. I posted on another forum asking about how much ad revenue a board this size could expect to earn. Hey--if I can make any money on it at all even a little that would be a huge incentive for me to pour even more effort into making it grow more.

Oh--Another thing I thought of. Is it possible to set up the forum's settings, skin etc. and stuff BEFORE porting over the cloned boards/threads/members?

Just be careful. When I converted my Forumer forum there was a bug that wouldn't convert any topic with 1,000 replies or more. If you have any massive topics like that, I would suggest splitting them up multiple topics with 999 replies or less, then re-merging them on your new forum.

nneonneo seemed to successfully fix it. He did it perfectly on Brawl Domain.

By the way, do be patient. Though I didn't convert Brawl Domain, I did do a test conversion, and it took over six hours to download the posts on a 100,000 post forum.

nneonneo's very, very nice. He'd be able to help you if you have any questions. Just post on his topic. My only advice (as I said on the quote above yours) is to be patient. It will take some time, so you could just run the program in the morning and go with your day and hope it's done the next day.

Waiting even a a day or two for it to complete would be no issue for me as long as it all worked well. That's excellent news Canadiano. You had threads 1000+ converted with no problem?

Now onto more questions...Besides the cost issues. Are there codes people can install on SMF like on Proboards to do things like colourful names? Like if you go on my board you see my name's rainbow and several others have their names decked out. It seems frivolous but they are immensely popular items that people work to earn forum money to buy. I want to have that on the new board too, even if the mod doesn't convert that's not really an issue as I could install it if it existed for the other software.

I noticed he is very nice! He's been so helpful to me on this subject. If this actually works, I can afford it and my members go with it too, it might really change my life.

Im gonna have to install a test SMF and see about the member's setting im a bit confused on what they say ill edit post in about 10 mins

edit: it has color on the online box. but idk about the posts etc

I am guessing that a custom code will be needed. I've only ever seen it happen on proboards forums. {If you check out my main page then look at members' names you'll see what I mean with the varying rainbow names}. I just don't know how I'd write the code for SMF but I do have it on proboards and could show you what the code is if it'd help.

Still looking into the hosting issue though. got to figure out what my bandwidth and disk usage is before I can even know if I can afford all this.
