Any tips for bringing in members?

Okay dude you sound like you want advice but keep turning it down. First off check the support forum out: ForuMotion Support Forum. The offer good themes here: Hitskin Comments & check out Tips & Tricks for modifications & tricks for your forum. Also you should start advertising, Check this thread for a list of advertising forums. Check out some of the other threads in this section as members give good advice. Also advertise in your signature, you can access it in going to the top of the page and visiting UserCP then accessing Profile and lastly visit Signature.
Also try sub-boarding some of your boards like consoles.

I still think in advance you could attract about 3 - 6 members a day if you actually took up our advice and moved to a better software, take ZetaBoards, there free easy to use and the themes are lovely there, ForuMotion just doesn't work as it it bullsh*t.

I'm not moving.Alright?

I don't wanna have to move all of my posts and such manually.

Now I guess my theme looks better now..

Sorry but this is coming from pretty much a blind person the design is horrible, ugly, & just not right. The colors don't blend in, plus the move ain't gonna be that bad, hardly any of your community is active and most of your post's look like flaming. It ain't going to effect anything.

I'm going to ignore the layout, for now..

I've made it where most of the boards are seeable, but in order to see the topics, you must log in.

Hopefully this will make people join.

If anything, making people register to read a post will do just the opposite... they'll go to a forum where they can read the posts without registering.

You need to give people a reason to join, which starts with them being able to see how your community members interact with each other. If they like what they see, they'll join. If they can't see anything at all, they won't take the time to register unless you're offering downloads or something for free.

I've recently added a mod to my forum that will prevent guests viewing threads after they've viewed "x" number of threads. it's based on cookies so can be reset, but i'm only trialling it out to see if it helps, if not then i'll revert back to having open access.

But I agree with Tecca blocking guests from viewing completely is not the best way to go about it.

Well I offered one of my created characters for download..

http://hocotatefreight.forum-motion.com ... e-t102.htm

Should I offer the actual fighting game engine for download, so people will be able to use the character and come back to my forum for tips?

and what is it going to take for people to be interested?

1000 messages?
2000?
3000?
4000?
5000?
Dare I say, 9000?

It's going to take.......

DEDICATION
PATIENCE
COMMITTMENT
CONTENT (preferrably unique as you can get)
POLITENESS <<<< big one in this case.

Regarding forums, yes the busier a forum is the more likely you'll get people interested, however, there is more to it than you making posts.

Well the quality of the content of your site for a start. It's not just quantity that may attract some people it's quality too.

You seem to be acting as if your community should be 100x it's size already when it takes a lot of hard work to get big.

Do you use this forum to help promote your website and join in other discussions or are you mainly focused on this thread?

Well I tryed to submit my forum for review here, and I couldn't because I have less than 15 members..

and I tryed promoting my forum here and no one even bothers to even reply to my thread..

You know you can bump it every 24 hours?
If it's sitting on page 5 and continuing to drop, then of course no-one will reply to it.

Also, look at your post above mine now. What do you see wrong?
I'll tell you.....

no signature - wasted opportunity to advertise your forum
no website link in your profile - wasted opportunity to advertise your forum

You aren't promoting your forum enough. The only place you are really promoting your forum is in this very thread, a thread that would most likely put quite a few people off joining your forum because of your reactions to people comments and suggestions.

Alright, I've got a signature for it now, but if that doesn't work, I'm screwed..

If no matter what I do, doesn't work..

My forum will be left in the dust, despite being active..

._.
Everyone else here took my words out of my mouth.
...
5 Pages of this! Oh my gawd. From all these tips you should be doing better than this right now. BTW - The theme stinks but I joined anyway.

We all fear that our sites might not take off after putting so much effort in to it. Don't think you are alone.

I've put lots of effort in to mine and it's still not off the ground, but that doesn't stop me.

Alright you can post now..

I had to add you to one of our usergroups,(it's to prevent spamming and such..)

introduce yourself in the introductions section..

i know the theme sucks in ways, but me and my other members like this layout.

Now, I do suspect you are a furry, but we don't usually allow furries on our forums, just keep your "fantasies" and such to yourself, and you'll be fine.

Lol okay. The furry thing is a bit of a story. I'm the SockWizard now.
Don't worry, I don't affiliate myself with the fandom at all, and fursuits are very, very dumb.
Well anyway it seems more like a little community of your buddies more than a wide forum full of strangers. Seems like a good thing I suppose.. If I can get into that ring of friends..[jk]

Well that's a good thing..

Your introduction seems perfect for the hall of fame..

We are a friendly community at best and we aren't robots, but a bunch of nerds and a music fan who have fun and such..
