Creating a Game

If he going to make it an online game, he better have a good 24/7 server.... and 24/7 assistance.

Well, ok slow down. First thing you need to decide, how you want this to be "online". Do you mean so players can play it online? Is it downloadable or going to be web-based? What languages do you currently know? What are you willing to learn and how "big" do you want to make this game?

As I said..an MMORPG..those are..Usually..online.

There are SO many questions you need to ask and discover before you can even start this. Also, note that this won't be free - especially since it's going to be an MMORPG. You will need to buy dedicated server space, which will cost you at least a couple hundred a month. As well as probably the engine.
No questions to be asked. I know what I want. I just want to be steered in the correct way.

I suggest you buy the Engine, since you don't have the man power, and I doubt the current knowledge, to build a full Gaming Engine. Once you answer those questions, than I can point you in what direction you want to go in regards with coding languages and steps.

No. First off, I need to know how to code one. What languages to learn and etc...You are already getting ahead of yourself. I am thinking one of the Last things I need to do is think about buying/making servers.

So the question remains, what languages to learn, and why?

Should I start out with C instead..or you sure C++? What about DirectX and ASP.

I would suggest either C++ or Java, Volux. If you wish to make a browser game such as runescape, then java is one way to do it.

Is that ALL java? I Don't Totally get java. Is it a program I use or some language to learn.

If you want to make a console game, I would suggest learning C#

if you want to make a online game (Runescape), it's all Java.

Java is the programming language. Java is also a software.

Nah, If you really want to make an amazing game use the unreal engine 🙂

I have heard of many engines..but I need to start small. If I go big right away spending hundreds of $$$. I won't know what to do.

As I understand it, Java is an interpreted language and C++ is a compiled language. Java must be interpreted into computer lingo before it can be run, thus requiring the java software. This is the same case with python. C++ is compiled into computer lingo before ever being usable, this making is universally compatible, pretty much. You need the interpreter to run interpreted languages like Java and Python.

OMG if you create a game i will help in whatever way i can. I am cereal, i will help.

If you're looking to start with 2D, try Python (programming language, very easy to learn/use) and Pygame (module for python to make 2D games).

If you need some help, you can just ask me, as I've made a few games using this 😉.

Dont know if your still looking for an engine but I came across one not so long ago called ezrpg. Its simple to use and helps you through the process.

Not really. My main problem is that it doesn't really show the big picture very well. You edit maps while logged into the game as a normal user through some fairly minimalistic menus. There is no undo / redo that I can see, though there are many tiles they seem poorly organized, and it lacks the auto-formatting of RPG-maker VX which makes shadows automatically and makes the tiles fit each other automatically. It looks sort of like a work in progress to me, and it seems to need a lot of refining.

Of course there are undo/redo things, this is the best 2D engine their is for this kind of game making. 😎

I would love to create a game for my world of madness. I have the characters, storylines, etc. I just don't have the time or knowledge to make it happen. If you make something post it up and I'm sure plenty of us will give it a go and let you know what we think.

Then how do you undo/redo?

@volux you are allowed to use the unreal engine FOR FREE until you want to legally sell it.

Awesome!
After you create your game, share with the community. I would love to play game created by Volux!

If you want to make a legit game, its going to take a team of people and lots of knowledge. Sure you can make a game with those shitty "game makers" but it wont be unique
