Giving Up Forums

I've run out of videogames so it would be very hard for me to give up my forum...

I'd love to give up my forum and take more control of my offline life, but to be honest I'd feel guilty about it and it would be nagging me forever. I mean it would hurt all of my hard working staff and members if I just pulled the plug really 🙁 I guess I should have thought more about starting it before I did.

Now the parks are usually empty and everyone is sitting on the computer getting fat and lazy. 😛

:/ I've lost half my weight since I started forums. So that's a false and very stereotypical statement. Also I have picture proof if need be.

I spend a lot of time online, but that's because I have two online university courses. One now since I finished one last Friday. Been studying the entire summer.

I manage to have a good RL as well as a good online life at the same time. I guess I kind of combine the both in a good way.

No, it'd be hard to quit foruming in general. I sometimes be staff at other peoples forum boards. I don't run my own and have basically given up on it for now.

It would take a few carefully aimed gun shots to take me away, and even then you'd have a mess to deal with afterwards.

I haven't actually run a true forum in awhile, so i'm just now getting back into the game. I hope that after a few months of learning as much as I can, it'll all pay off.

Where I live there arn't any parks that are easy to get to, so "playing outside with friends" isn't a choice. It's either be anti-social, or get online and socialize the only way possible.

The Internet is making the world smaller (so is China's population growth though...) so only time will tell if it was positive or negative.

No, I won't give up on a forum. It's too much fun.

I don't see how you can, either. It's not like you have to devote your life to it. A forum is a hobby; something you do in your spare time. If you're devoting your life to the forum, then you clearly have the whole forum idea wrong.

That's how I feel as well. Foruming is just way too much fun. I have been running forums off and on for almost a year. I have given up many times and lost what could have been 1000's of members because of it, but I am not going to buckle this time. No matter how busy my real life schedule is, I am always going to find time to run my own forum and go on other's people's forums.

Wow I still have internet. They should have cut it off a week ago. Hey free internet, cant complain. 😀 Im just wondering when its finally going to happen. 😛

If it was something you really had to do, I'm sure your members and staff would be understanding and move on. There is millions of forums on the internet and they could always just start their own new one if they wanted. Either that or you could just give it to whoever wanted it (if you felt comfortable with that).

I have, and will never give up on my forum, and I will never close it due to inactivity. The only times I have ever closed my forum was to move to a better host. But other than that, I will never close it for inactivity, nor will I ever give it away to someone else.

I am very well aware that there are other boards out there that have the same subject as mine, and is a lot more active. And while, I am happy for them, I am not going to enjoy my forum less because comparing my forum to others was not the reason I made a forum in the first place.. it was so that I can meet, share ideas and chat with people from all over the world in a laid-back environment.

I think that the only way I'd have to give it up was if my host was going down, or if it was no longer free. I do have other expenses, and my forum takes a back seat to that. If that happened, then I would have to take my database, and convert it to another kind of software and see if I can get my forum up and running on a different kind of software..

The only reason I would close down my forum is because of technical issues, never inactivity. If I notice inactivity for a long time, I would just increase my advertising.

Yeah internet obligations are important to me, and definitely my own forum, but I will always value of life off of the internet more than anything on the internet.

I would not voluntarily give up on a forum. There would have to be a good reason.

I feel the same way now, Black Angel. If I had to give up foruming to real world life, I would simply give Let's Just Talk to my co-administrator and let him take over from were I left off. As was said in the post above me, foruming is a hobby for me, not a career. I wouldn't give up foruming for anything, but if I had to, I would gladly step aside and give my board away.
