Actually you are being the ignorant one. $1000 a month is great for a teenager who probably lives with his parents and has no bills to pay. Thats all profit. Also many people work 8 hours a day and have plenty of time left over to do things. If you forgot there is 24 hours in a day. He still has 16 hours left to have a life (since its summer time) and sleep plus 2 days off a week Im assuming. Also he may enjoy helping customers and is earning job experience and if he does well he can use this job and his supervisior a reference to get a better job in the future.

Summer doesn't start until June 21st.

Summer break from school. Some schools get out this month and others out next month.
Anyways if he does a good job at this job he can have an employer there to say that he has a strong work ethic and is reliable. Then he could get a job in (for example) construction.. Then he can come back and call you ignorant for sitting around on the computer all day while he is making $100 an hour and getting paid to work out. 😛

You're quite ignorant for only looking at $1000/month. Do you even understand the measures he has to take to make that money? Clearly not, so let me calculate it for you.

If he works 20 days, that's 160 hours a month. 160 hours in a month for only $1000? That's terrible, and a tremendous consumption of one's time. He won't have any time to do anything else. Funny thing about your post is that you used age as a point. I'm the same age as him and can call out what's good pay and bad pay.

*sigh* it's not that bad. Most people I know would take $7 an hour and I'm pretty sure it's equivalent to about £4.50 here in the UK. As for not having time to do anything else, ok his time will be more limited, but that's a compromise of getting a job and I'm sure he was fully aware of that. As for age, yes you can call it out, albeit in an ill-advised, unconstructive, tactless manner.
How could you even judge my attitude towards life by a single post I made that merely states my opinion? I'll let you in on a secret - I make around $1000/mo by working 1-2 hours a day on the Internet. So no, I'm not just 'sitting' around. Oh, and I'm only 17 too, just like him. Why else do you think I'm able to launch new sites every week and own 50 domain names in my account?

Well if you're earning money from the internet, you are sitting around on your computer

As for you launching new sites every week, you take on a workload that unless you have absolutely no life you can't manage and then sell forums after you realise this. As for you having 50 domain names, great, doubt many of them are going to be put to good use.

Oh and people who work in jobs such as Mod Hidden's are more important to society then people who earn $1,000 a month off the internet. :|

The thing is Mr.Green, he will actually have something to put on his resume when he is looking for future work, unlike you, who can't put Freelance Web Developer as you have no real skill set which employers look for when hiring people. Anyone can say they sit on a computer and earn $1,000 a month, but if you actually have a job, and do the hard work to earn the money, it shows more.

Anyway, congrats, i may have a job myself soon!

C'mon guys. Really? Are you really going to argue 'bout the 'mount of salary on Mod Hidden's New Job Thread. That's pretty mean in my opinion.

Anyway.... congrats on the new job. That's a good amount of money in my opinion.

What I’m trying to say is that sure, he can make $1000/month, but only during the Summer, unless he wants to sacrifice school.

Yes, because by then, I’ll still be doing the exact same thing I’m doing now and only making $1000/month. Keep in mind I’m only 17 myself, and making money from the Internet is only the start for me. By the time he reaches $100/hour, only god knows what I’ll be doing by then.

Literally, yes, but that’s not important and doesn’t justify the point you’re trying to make.

Once again, that’s ignorance. I’m not going to tell you how I manage my sites, or what happens in my life. You can doubt all you want.

That’s your own opinion. Frankly, I believe otherwise. People who make money from the Internet are far smarter than people who work in fast food restaurants. Smarter people are the ones who are more important in society. And just because somebody is making money from the Internet, it doesn’t mean they can’t have a real part-time job as well.

That’s a different story in itself, as I’m talking specifically about the salary in his scenario. But regardless, you can definitely put Internet work on your resume. People do it all the time. And how could you say that a freelance web developer has ‘no real skill set?’ That’s completely false.

I’m sure it’s harder to take orders in a fast food restaurant and prepare some food, than it is to develop a website and make money from it, right?

Keep em’ coming, folks.

Congratulations. One word of advice, resign rather than get fired. By the 6 month to one year mark, they are hesitant to give you a raise so they fire you and bring in someone else, about the same age as when you started off.

This is getting way out of hand, any argumentative posts will be deleted from now on, he has got a new job, good luck with it.

It's a beginning job. You expect him to go out and make $10 an hour for working at a fast food joint? Come on, no need to get out of hand.

Congratulations on the job! I'm getting one soon too 🙂

It's better than sitting on the computer all day, or on the sofa, etc..

Congratulations on the job, enjoy it! 🙂

I started working for £4.50 an hour (6 hours per week) when i was at college. For me it has increased the longer i have been there and now earn a decent amount more. For a start that is pretty decent and atleasst it is work and it gives him experience, something to put on his CV and improves him communication skills and what not that help in you non work life aswell.

You should encourage him and not put him down.

Agreed, there are far too many kids these days who won't even entertain getting out of bed for less than £7 an hour, they would much rather get state benefits for free......I used to work 39 hours a week for £27.50 on a YTS scheme when I was 16.

Don't knock this guy for wanting to get off his backside and joining the real world. For all his hard earned cash I can guarantee he will be the one who appreciates everything he buys and certainly won't be braggy and boastful about it.

Good luck with your new job it's the first step to success 🙂
