Absolutely. Meeting other webmasters and doing post exchanges, graphics etc. is very helpful. I have vBulletin, I've paid for it. I have money to spend on my site, but I still choose to do some of my promotion here.

The amount of energy you put into advertising here and building a reputation, versus splashing a few hundred out on Google Adwords... I'd honestly rather go with Google Adwords and spend that energy posting around on my own community. Then again, my sort of forum does not sell well to a community like FP. Not many people here like writing, or so I've found.
Post exchanges - far from ideal. The people doing them largely don't write, and so can't contribute much to my main section.
Webmaster chat? No offense to Fowler and Fergal, but TAZ does that much better.
The only reason I came back was that I finally have an active section that might appeal to people here - an art and graphics section. Then again, it's not my primary section so I don't worry about it so much. It's just there to entice my writing members to stick around a bit more.

I could go for adwords but I don't think it worth the money. I actually enjoy posting at FP, posting blog comments and trying things to improve SEO. It's a hobby for me at least.

Its the "idea" there are not many of them but to be honest most big sites I seen which are a good amount are most of the time on VB. Don't know why, its been longer around and lots of people know about it from the looks of some big forums on it.

2011? What on earth? They are just trying to milk people for the subscription cost. You only get a very low discount for a license for each new series, so that's what they are on with there.

Inflation shouldn't rise that quickly, and to be fair, that's why a lot of vBulletin customers have been converting to IPB, primarily because converting was cheaper than upgrading to vBulletin 4. Then when Xenforo comes, I can at least guarantee more people will go that way as well. You basically can't compete if your pricing is through the roof compared to the others.
