Man hits teenager on airplane for not turning off iphone

It isn't that funny. The kid didn't listen, and the 68 year old is being punished for trying to get the kid to do what he was instructed to do.

That's ridiculous. Some 68 year old man has no right to instruct a kid to follow the rules of the airplane. That guy should be charged within the full extent of the law for what he did.

The kid's 15, probably some rich bastard if he has an iphone 😛

But yeah I'm not saying old men should be slapping teens, even if they deserve it.

It is against FAA regulations to use electronics during take-off and landing. If the teen didn't listen, he should have been removed from the plane. I'm sick of little punks, the 15 year old would go to Juvie if was up to me.

Go to juvie for using a phone on an airplane? How many adults do you think don't want to turn off their electronics on an airplane?

The guy slapped someone on an airplane. He wasn't in a position of authority, and even if he were, then this would be even worse. He had no right to hit a kid to get him to turn off his phone.

Ohh jeez, let's give the guy a medal, he saved the day!

The old man got what he deserved. He could have told a flight attendant or something.

What do you mean you come from a different world? Do you seriously support violent vigilantism against a 15 year old boy by a 60 year old man? What if that were your son who was just punched by some random man on an airplane?

I absolutely agree with you Irviding. The man had no right to hit that kid or anyone else. Like Matthew said, he could have called a flight attendant.

Also, FarSide, the kid wasn't a punk. I don't know how he lives his life, but not turning off your iPhone doesn't get you sent to juvie. Plenty of grown men and women, "adults" if you will, continue to use their cellphones because checking their e-mails or tweeting their location is more important than those regulations you mentioned. Quite frankly, they're all acting like a bunch of children when they refuse to turn their phones off.

Well first off, my son wouldn't have an iPhone until he was able to work and pay for it himself, and he would have the manners to turn it off when told. If I wasn't there, I would expect someone to correct him, and if he doesn't listen? Make him listen. That's what's wrong with America nowadays, punishment that makes people listen has gone away.... Now you just get 'a good talking to.' Like that's going to do anything.... Must be why half my high school class went to jail or dropped out of college. Just not there anymore I guess.

You can't hit a random stranger, especially a teen.

I'm pretty sure the kid was probably arrogant anyway if he has an iPhone and traveling near Vegas. Wasn't deserved to be hit though.

That 68 year old could have handled the situation in a different way. Maybe tell the kids parents or get a flight attendant? No need to do what he did.

That's an argument for another day, however, you would be perfectly fine with some random guy on an airplane punching your child? Just perfectly fine with it?

In my opinion, my kid is my kid. Hopefully I do a good enough job raising my children so that they aren't in this situation in the first place. However, should they be in this situation, I should be the first one to respond, and not by hitting my kid. It's actually really a simple "Give me the phone I obviously bought for you since you're 15. Oh, it's off now and it'll be in my bag for the rest of the flight."

If I'm not there, yeah a flight attendant should definitely be called to take care of the situation. But never in a million years will I ever condone someone else, a complete stranger, hitting my children.

If you're a good parent, there shouldn't be any need to physically hit your child. Hitting your child is a display of weakness. It shows that you can't really get the job done.

I agree. I think hitting usually signifies a loss of control over a situation, and really it never does any good, it only escalates the situation, resulting in more crying, chaos, yelling, etc.

When I was younger I usually hit my brother if I totally lost control. We used to get into some really physical fights, now we just argue verbally and use comebacks that try to make the other person look bad 😛

I'm 15 and I have an iPhone, what are you saying? 😛 jk lol

And my parents have been involved with the airline for years, and cell phones don't actually do anything. Asking for them to be turned off is simply a way to "make people feel safer" when in reality it does nothing.
