It isn't that funny. The kid didn't listen, and the 68 year old is being punished for trying to get the kid to do what he was instructed to do.

That's ridiculous. Some 68 year old man has no right to instruct a kid to follow the rules of the airplane. That guy should be charged within the full extent of the law for what he did.dentist said:
It is against FAA regulations to use electronics during take-off and landing. If the teen didn't listen, he should have been removed from the plane. I'm sick of little punks, the 15 year old would go to Juvie if was up to me.

The guy slapped someone on an airplane. He wasn't in a position of authority, and even if he were, then this would be even worse. He had no right to hit a kid to get him to turn off his phone.

Plenty of grown men and women, "adults" if you will, continue to use their cellphones because checking their e-mails or tweeting their location is more important than those regulations you mentioned. In my opinion, my kid is my kid. Hopefully I do a good enough job raising my children so that they aren't in this situation in the first place. However, should they be in this situation, I should be the first one to respond, and not by hitting my kid. It's actually really a simple "Give me the phone I obviously bought for you since you're 15. Oh, it's off now and it'll be in my bag for the rest of the flight."

If you're a good parent, there shouldn't be any need to physically hit your child. Hitting your child is a display of weakness. It shows that you can't really get the job done.
I agree. I think hitting usually signifies a loss of control over a situation, and really it never does any good, it only escalates the situation, resulting in more crying, chaos, yelling, etc.Snobothehobo said:

And my parents have been involved with the airline for years, and cell phones don't actually do anything. Asking for them to be turned off is simply a way to "make people feel safer" when in reality it does nothing.
