PhpBB2

It does take some time in the beginning -D-
After wards, you'll get used to it 😉

What are you talking about?
I am not saying IPB is hard to set permissions.

I actually own an IPB license, unlike you.

I was talking about phpBB3.

You're just saying it was difficult a second a go. Why are you telling me I will 'get the hang of it' ?

I used to own one which I sold sometime ago. -😉-

Really? What version were you using?

It was a version 2.3. I sold it because the forum was not successful -🙁-

I have PhpBB2, I guess it's pretty good and easy to use, do you have to pay to get PhpBB3? -n-

No phpbb3 is free, you download it from phpbb.com.

Okay thanks, guess my forum could use an upgrade, its outdated compared to everyone elses.

You have to have ftp access to upgrade your forum... If you are on a free host you have to wait for your host to upgrade it.

And who knows how long that could be. -lol-

Best I could do is email them/him.

I know, I couldn't access my own site today! Some error popped up, I think it maybe abandoned?!

I might need to change. -lol-

Funny eh?

If i was you i would look for a new host or better yet get paid hosting and then install a forum yourself and you can then update and add what you want.

I'm quite a dummy with computers, I want to keep all the posts and members etc.

I think I might try to search for a new host, is there any good ones that you recommend?

The chances are you probably won't be able to keep everything (especially as your host doesn't look that looked after by the owner).

I would recommend either http://prophpBB.com or http://forumotion.com.

Which parts of my forum do you think will be lost? I would happy if there was a way to retain all or most of the posts (19000 or so) and members...

I remember my co admin once gave an email to the host and the host never replied. -n-

If you can get a backup from your host then you will only lose all the data relating to the mods they have installed that you new has hosted got installed. You will definitely keep the posts/members/pm's/settings and so on.

The only issue is 1) getting a backup from your host and 2) as you backup will be for a phpBB2 forum you either need to find a better phpBB2 host and see if they allow it to be restored, or convert it yourself to phpBB3 and then see if any phpBB3 host will allow it to be restored on their network. Or you could get a cheap (or free) webhosting package and install phpBB2 and convert to phpBB3 and run your forum from that account.

If you can't get a backup then you either lose everything or stick with your current host.

Well, 1) I think the host has abandoned the forum, 2) I can't even access my own, so I probably can't get a backup resulting in I would have to start from scratch, which would mean I would have to email my members to tell them i've moved.
