Reputation Changes

A bit late to comment but I'm glad you've done this. Neg rep caused way too many problems than it solved.

Agreed. When my account was compromised last year, I got negative rep for something that I don't remember doing. Hopefully this should solve that problem. It was something to do with abusing something, and that baffled me, as I am always careful on forums to never abuse anything, or if I don't know how something works, I won't even try using it or if I do need it, I'll ask for help.

Their are ways to fix this, other than removing it. I know a great site that had the same issue but found solutions, if you wish to hear post here and Ill take the time to use details and explain.

We shouldn't have to ask, but okay we'll play it your way.

How can we fix this without removing -rep?

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound like a boss. I just wanted to catch your attention.

1. Reputation is something that is extremely important therefore we need to be clear about the rules.

For 1, If users don't have more than 10 post don't give them Rep. rights we know they will abuse it as they are new.

2. Don't ban for negative rep if the user abuses it simply remove their right temporary the first time the second time for a very long time. Once this starts to happen no one will want to abuse their powers. If a member wishes not to respect the rules, removing the negative rep won't do nothing they will still think the same they need to learn by giving them warning and infractions, Removing the negative rep is a good thing for them ( They feel that they were so bad that hey have made the admins change the system) your just making the evil people win, make them suffer not win.

3. If a person abuses their powers for a third time don't hold back and ban them from the forum.

I think that's quite simple, but here comes the negative comments, Ears are open !

Also this forum is big, if anyone complains tell them you won't answer them back and if they know it was really unfair they have to send a well done report supporting their case to a certain person willing to play as forum judge, but I would not be that nice.

I think it's users with less than 25 posts (the threshold) can still give rep, but I know that users with less than (25) number of posts records it as 0 (so even if it's + reputation, it will record it as 0). Also, by your logic, new users will always abuse reputation rights 😕 Not a very good stereotype; just because they are new, it doesn't mean they will abuse the reputation system.

Users that abuse the system do in fact have their reputation rights removed. Those people will still abuse them if they want to, so a temporary removal won't stop them. The negative reputation was mainly removed because it was being abused, not that people who deserved the negative reputation complained or whatnot and got it removed. How is that letting "evil people win"?

Well, why go to a third chance? I'd expect their reputation rights would be removed indefinitely if they had abused it a second time, if they were even given the second chance.

Seeing that you are a relatively new member here, previously when it was enabled, there was a reporting system for unfair/abuse of negative reputation. From my experience, it worked out well.

Your suggestions are either happening now (eg. users with less than x number of posts can't add/subtract reputation) or did happen before when it was working (reporting an abuse of negative reputation), and I'd expect that was considered very much by the admins.

Why is it worth the time and BS though??? And the complaint system and stuff it's just not worth the time.

It's because he is a new member so he hasn't seen the trouble it caused previously.

Okay I just analyze the situation and boy it is a big problem, so don't use the negative rep again. I finally understand why.

it warms my heart to see that you got rid of the negative reputation button. Last time i heard of negative rep abuse, it took me dealing with it in my own way before something was done.

thumbs up to whoever took the negative rep button off =)
